Nice catch! Good lighting and colors. Good contrast. Sharp enough! It seems you focused on the body at the point the wings root. Wouldn't be better to focus on the head?

Thank you so very much! It would have been better but he landed and I focused fast and shot and he flew away.

Yes, I know and I understand as I also tried insects... I know your are a pro, my question was not intended to you but kind of 'what if'...

I rely on the auto focus. If I had the time to look at the monitor I would have tried again. Thanks again!

Great shot Willie. You obviously seized the moment. Very well composed and framed, the colour of the dragon fly against the leaves are great, and your exposure, focus and DOF are spot on. I can see him being eaten by a fish that is then eaten by one of your tame herons....who will then pose for you? Well done (again)

Wonderful close up. The fine hairs are visible on this amazing creature. This also senses the slight vibration of his wings. Dragon flies are amazing creatures. I love when they swarm. Thank you for sharing :)

This is the third insect photo I have done today and they are all incredible but each in their own special way.
The eye on this one is not as in focus but as close as you were I'm not sure how you could get everything in focus with the lens you used. I'm amazed you got what you did!
What I really like about this photo is the color--the green of the insect blending with the green of the foliage is amazing. The black of the insects legs, its body and wings, create quite a contrast in this photo...basically shades of bright green and black, the only two colors in this photo.
Because of the short time period you had to shoot this fellow I wouldn't even think of commenting on points that might make the photo better. It just would not be fair. And sometimes it is just not right. It was probably all you could do to get the tremendous shot you got! After all they don't sit around and ask if you are done...
Thanks for sharing
