My main issue is that the picture is clearly designed to be fluid and graceful, with the gryphon taking off into the night sky, yet I find it somewhat stilted. I'm not convinced he's going to! I do like the choice and placement of color. Dawning of the new day, "... and I'm here to take it on....!"

as far as the painting designed to be fluid and graceful, that wasn't my intend, that is just a result of the brushes on twisted brush. Its not an adobe photoshop expensive program so it has it's limitations, a lot as a fact, but I manage to work around it.with him looking like he is more still than in movement,I have to completely agree with you there. That is the results of the feathers, well thats what they are suppose to be anyway LOL, Lucien is tryimg to help me with that one but he is a tradtional artis, again differece between photography, tradtional and digital, unless you have one of the 3D programs that has feathers already preformed you have to find the right brush for the effect, and as of now, I have no idea what that one is and apparently neither does anyone who uses this program, I have searched so many tutorials its unbeleivable. If you can help me with that, or know of any on the digital art side, boy would I be greateful!. I truly appreciate your honesty and your review, any review that is a postive critque I can deal with and learn from, please don't take this that I am upset with your review because I'm not at all, but your review doesn't give me much answered, so please any help is better than none at all, any suggestions? I think what I'm asking is HELP!!!! LOL
my mother in law wants me to paint her a hummingbird, and of course it has those impossable feathers that I can't mamage to understand.
sorry for such a long reply, just asking for any type of help that you can offer.
again thank you so much

This is absoulutely beautiful.
The sky onfire, majestic beast in flight. Just imagining the paws touching the water below and the powerful wings power through the air. It may catch a fish should the urge arise. Thank you for the wonderful picture and all of the daydreams that come with such a vibrant painting.

WOW! It always amazes me how one person will see a lousy piece of art in the exact same piece that someone else sees a fantastic work of art in LOL. just got a review with a 3 and then your's with a six.. guess its all in the matter of taste and what one likes vs dislikes. Youi have paid me a huge complmnet and it is deeply and very sincerely appreciated.

Very nice rendition of the mythological creature. I particularly like the passionate and fiery background and the rippled effects on the water. The wings are wonderful my friend. Cyn

Lucien gave me some good advice on how to get better at painting wings, so thats my newest exercies {{ doesn't help the big butt from setting at the computer any, but I've always hesrd that any exercise is better than none at all LOL }

Look at the fantastic progress in your technique! The clarity of your work has improved so much from your earlier works. The reflection in the water, the eagle's bonnet. And the talons are great. I hope you are saving all of this work, it will look great in your portfolio.

you hsve no idea Jim how much it means to me that you have kept following my work since I began on this site last year. Your complments even then were always so encouraging. It means alot to know that you can see my progess. I still have so much to learn. I have been attempting different programs, but I still keep coming back to twistedbrush, sort of my favorite one needless to say, but there are things that it lacks, or at least I have no idea how to do them. If I want to incorporate a photo into just one protion but still not lose my layers, I don't know how to do a cut and paste on it, and if you do put a photo into a layer, it hides the layers below. as I said however I'm still learning.
thank you so much for the high rating and being a great freind JIm.
p.s. I still have your photo of 'a bridge to nowhere hanging in my den, thats still is and no doubt will alwys be one of my favorites

Nice details on the griffins eagle face. To me that looks really good. To bad the rest of him does not have that same crispness and details. like his rear legs they look too blurry as does the wings. i would also suggest he be entirely in the frame. I think if you did some more work to incorporate more details in the areas mentioned it would be a really good image.

ouch! lol i would be offended but its rather difficult to be offended when someone has your talent. any suggestions on feathers would be really appreciated. i just can't seem to get them down at all. this was my second draft, the first one looked more like hair. i'm not that talented of an artist and as far as traditional goes, i'm pretty good at stick people lol, i'm now working on another bird just to get feathers, but they still all look off. your work is percise, any advice or places where i can go to get a few tips would be deeply appreciated. my work has come a long way in a short year but its only due to the help of others on this site that i have learned from. i appreiate your honesty. i'm never offended by honest critique, please review any of my other work as you can, your help would be appreciated.
thank you again lucien, i sincerely mean that

ltnnkah,
I would be sure to have feathers on a table to look at and a sketch book and then I would work on drawing one, over and over again until I get the structure. Remember there are flight feather, and body feathers, and down feathers and each one is lightly different in appearance. there are also good on line session on how to draw feathers. but the biggest thing that helped me was getting a few different types studying their structure and then just practicing drawing them. first with a graphite pencil then with a color pencil and then painting them. just practicing. once I understand the shape, the basic shape, this can be done with a simple center quill line which transition or transforms alone the center of the feather and becomes the shaft and then the outer two curve lines. The curve of the feather, those lines, just to get to the basic shape which is created by the barbs that come off of the shaft and then there are the barbules that come from the barbs keeping in mind the curve coming of the center spline line, the structure. Do the exercise of drawing the basic feather a hundred time or until I get comfortable and then progress to Next draw a wing and eventually I would draw a bird. The feather is similar to a leaf. Nothing easy or quick about learning to do it right just lots of patience and practice, and if you analytical side of the brain kick in, stop and walk away and then come back y to it after an hour or better.
My biggest golden rule is throw away the eraser, do not erase anything you have drawn, study it and learn from what you have drawn and improve. Let me know how it goes. If anything I have said helped. Go on line and see how to draw a feather sites. Have fun and a good day... Cheers!!!
Lucien
