Your dof goes beyond the egret. The background is is clearer then the bird. The edges of the wings are out of focus as it shows more in the reflection. The foreground is soft is focus as is the egret but everything beyond is sharp and clear. I admire a lot of your shots but I cannot believe this one.

Yes it does look like a paining Willie. Or the bird looks almost like it was sculped. Good focus and contrast and the setail is awesome.
