I think that the HDR on the bird and the way it added texture to the feathers is really good. At the same time that effect in the background makes it to strong and detracts from the flow. To me the background needs to be cropped. At the top and right to bring a better visual balance to the composition. Nice idea needs a little adjusting as suggested to be a more effective image.

Thank you so very much! I can see what you said about the background. I'm not sure I agree with you on the cropping though. I think I will go back and put this in layers and do the detail adjustment on just the bird then the background will look more natural. I will take a look also at the cropping. Thanks very much for your input. I like having people like you giving honest opinions rather than a pat on the back lie! I can pat myself on the back if I win the contest!

I like the shallow depth of field, as well as contrast. Not sure the type of camera that was used, but looks as if auto-focus may have been used. Auto-focus can be your worst enemy at times because the camera determines what is in focus and what is not.In my experience manual focus is always better if you can. Also keep in mind if using a zoom lens and cropping the photo to blow it up often it will be distorted unless using a high mega-pixel camera. Over all nice photo!

Thank you for the review. I use an Olympus E3 camera and for this shot I was using a 70-300mm lens. I did use auto focus. This shot was cropped very little. I don't understand the three star rating which means below average. Everything is sharp with nothing out of focus.

Im not understanding why its coming up as 3 star, i actually gave you a 5 star because i thought it was a good pic. i will try to contact someone to make them aware of this issue
