It is not often little boys ask to get their photo taken, but by the expressive face I can see he is quite a character. This of course is enhanced by the fine hat he is wearing. I like the background as well and how well the boy is standing out from it.
Your focus is nice and sharp showing clear and well defined details all over, and the exposure is perfect.
I suppose this contest ash for no editing, but if it is allowed I would have cropped the right side, to make the boy less centered. Still this is an all together well taken photo with a very good DOF, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Thank you so very much! I always crop and make adjustments but because of the contest rules I left it as shot. I think the rules for "traditional" is a little unreasonable. It could still be traditional with minor edits.

I agree with you. A slight crop still makes the photo traditional.

Cute little fellow and indeed nicely captured. I love the expression. It is not a smile, but the very hard try of a posture and a smile which is appropriate for a portrait shot in his mind. The colors look good The red emphasizes the skin tone of the boy and goes well with the brown of the wood. I personally would crop on both sides to portrait [vertical] format; but of curse that's just my idea of it. Best Luck for the contest.

Thank you so very much! The contest rules would not allow any edits which includes cropping.

Oh sorry, I should have looked at those rules before writing the review.
