I'm not a natural fan of the modern abstract so my first impression is withdrawal from the tortured face of the man - but then that is probably a correct impulse as we get a clear depiction of a face twisted by life's hardships and the agony of remorse clearly seen in the eyes. There is an interesting contrast that is only seen when comparing the thumbnail photo i.e. very small rendering of the painting with the larger one - the smaller the painting the more it seems as though the man is looking at the viewer but on closer inspection the eyes are in fact facing away towards one might assume the cross at the altar. The man is clearly in a traditional church as he is set between two stained glass windows. The way in which the man is painted suggests a clown figure with red nose and pointed arched eyebrows but dressed in conservative suit and tie - the large tie is also suggestive of the clown - a good symbol of the mask hiding the inner person . Interesting use of primary colors adds to the basic rawness of the emotions. The fact that some green has been introduced into the face might suggest a glimmer of hope in all this pain.

red nose= drink. This man has done some pretty evil things, but is a lecturer and in old age, has mellowed- not exactly sorry, but well- you know- thank you

Well your artwork coupled with my broken ankle gave me inspiration for my newly posted ABC poem called "On healing" - I hope you don't mind that I used your pic for that posting.
