Contrasting colours are those that appear on the opposite side of the colour wheel and you have nailed this with orange and blue.
You have lost all photographic information on the white and that is due to exposure ...in this case overexposure and no matter how much time you spend on burning information in nothing will show up.
I do find this image very calming and nicely cropped and centered with good marginal space all around.

Very beautiful duck. I'm not sure if this is an American Mallard although the head is green. Very unique and very contrasting colors. Nice framing and the beautiful blue water help tremendously.

This duck looks like he is resting. Our Mallards have the red breast, this one has a white one and his red is lower, interesting, love the reflection on the water.

Your image is definitely full of strong colours, possibly too strong. The water is a gorgeous and amazing blue! Your central image is a good composition making the viewer immediately look at the duck. The mallard, though, is not sharp and I feel the whites have been over-exposed.
