I am trying to make sense of this Renate.

The barbed wire makes sense for struggle, the braid of horsehair, and the board confuses me, the branches show no life and that is reminiscent of no life in the frozen tundra.

I am sorry that there is not a thing there that is Ukrainian to pay homage to your roots, some Ukrainian cross-stitch pattern on a piece of cloth, ripped and torn by the barbed wire ....just a suggestion.

I thought of that, but they wore rags and I thought of using the colours in the sky in the background yellow and blue, but dad was in the far nothing and there was no blue, he walked in snow up to his waist and his lower body froze for a long way to escape it was bleakness and nothingness all around-- and anything which was remotely nice was sold for food-it was utter desolation. however over here we have everything, but the same sort of savagery with different names, the ultimate social experiment and genetic tinkering continues- makes one wonder which is the best way--honest savagery or covered hype, as again, no one knows who will be next..
