This could be a scene from a fairytale! it looks like a wonderful building being built, and thatching is a specific skill so it's not easy work!! lovely angle and action shot of the men at work, the colours are crisp and clear, and it makes for a lovely overall photo with the complexity of colours and shapes as they work on it - great pic.

Informative notes about a style of roof I never saw or heard of.
Looks like tedious back breaking work to complete.
Great Capture Fred with sharp focus crisp details and controlled exposure.
Nice work :)

i just dont see how that would hold up during a bad wind storm. i guess they dont have that. cool capture. the clarity is great. the angle of the shot of the works working on the roof is great. the capture of the light is great. the image is balanced and eye appealing to the viewer. good eye and great job overall

Quite a nice building shot posted here! Given the weather conditions we get here in our part of the UK, I would not, under any circumstances ever want a thatched roof! Your image is well composed, sharp and with good exposure. Nicely taken!

Well this definitely looks like someone from the latter group sg as it looks to be quite a nice home.
Boy this also looks to be a real labor intensive job...looking at the thickness of the thatching att the edge there they must make many layers.....although I suppose they would have to to have it be really effective. Just fascinating notes sg made all the better by the photo of the work actually being done. Also like that you included the pile of raw thatch on the ground at the right.
Marvelous focus here....I could study this for a long time it is so well detailed and clearly documented. Good color w/ spot on exposure. Your posts are such a pleasure sg!!!

Good story and action shot. Certainly something unique to your area. I wonder if a different angle or closer viewpoint would have made it more interesting, not that it is boring at all, but that might be the final tweak needed.

thanks; if closer, you'll not have a good view of the roof!

I just had to put a new roof on my garage because it is under some kind of tree whose drippings caused it to deteriorate. It never occurred to me to check out thatching. Maybe when it is time to replace the entire roof, but it is something I would have to check out thoroughly before doing it in Michigan. A nice clear shot that shows the process very well.

It seems the world is going back to the old ways of doing things, pretty awesome to see what is underneath this type of roof, it does not look easy to do,,it must be not very fireproof though right,,great history of how this is done also
