Chuck this is a great macro photo. Sharp focus on the flower, cropped good, balanced good. The name of the flower doesn't matter when spring is on the way. Love all the unusual titles of your photos. This one is a perfect shot and now recognised!!!

I can see the resemblance to honeycomb in the seed head. You captured good detail of the structure and the thorny stem. The flowers at the top of the thistle have a nice color and good detail as well. Looks like the bee decided to move as you grabbed the shot.

Yeah - he was a busy little fellow that day. Thanks for the review.

The focus is superb on this whatever it is. Hard to do unless you have an absolutely still day. Nice to have the insect along. thanks for the notes about the plant.

Pretty darn powerful control of your exposure - the colors brilliant and ever so natural to the scene. Great lighting as well - white offered to us with perfection. Great detail as well over the plant as well. Good luck in the contest and thanks for sharing!

This is a Dipsacus Thistle Chuck, and I am sure you have seen it in bloom with the purple flowers. In your photo it is just the seed pod left of it, but I think they are lovely at this stage as well. It is a pity that you did not get the insect in focus as well of course, but the plant is standing out nicely against the softened background.

Your focus is nice and sharp and it is indeed clear and well defined details to be seen in the pod. It is also lovely the way the light is falling on it, and the exposure is fine.

I like the format you have cropped your photo into, and the thistle has got a fine placement within the frame. I think this is a lovely and well taken photo, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Thank you very much Annie ; not only for your great review but for your wealth of information about our lone ranger. Yeah, too bad about the bee, but he was not the main focus of my shot anyway and maybe he was just moving about so feverishly ;-)

I knew it was the thistle that was your main focus and you are more than welcome both for the information and for the review.

The flower is a teasel, a common plant found in wetlands throughout the midwest. A nicely composed shot with beautiful colors and nice sharp details in the flower and its spiny stem.

Very interesting flower. It does look like a honeycomb and appears to just be beginning to bloom. The thorns aren't very inviting. Great focus, lighting and framing.

So this was film? The long vertical makes this particularly effective. The flower isn't perfect, which is ...perfect. I like the sharp focus on the stem, with the soft background. Good use of DOF.

Yup. Film - you remember that? Thanks for the nice review.

Of course. I still have an OM-1 from 1972. I think it is the first model, because it was given to my dad by Olympus to promote it. Some of the pictures I've submitted are film.

    Got the same model

    Great camera.
reply by btowngirl on 04-Apr-2017
Yep. I had to have it overhauled to replace a stained mirror and nonfunctioning light meter. I also had to buy a new hot shoe for the flash. I still love this little camera. It's so light, yet so versatile. Do you develop your own film? It's getting hard to find a lab anymore.

Nope. Haven't used it in two years since my son bought me the Nikon D3000 as a birthday present. Had to take a photo class to learn how to use all the "complicated" manual settings. Where the OM1 was so simple to use, the new cameras require a lot of effort. Sometimes I just shoot in auto and do some post proccesing in Picasa.

I hear you. I need to take that photo class too. I took one years ago, before digital.
