I knew which contest this entry was for even before I opened it, and it is quite a creative one as well. I especially like how the pencils are filling the frame, but I am not so sure about the selective focus. It would have been OK if more of the pencils were in sharp focus, but I actually just find one, perhaps two.
Still it is clear and well defined details to see where your focus is sharp, and it is noting wrong with the exposure either. The colors are crisp and clear.
I like the way you have placed the pencils within the frame, all pointing upwards, and your cropping is perfect. I think it is a nice and well taken photo even if we obviously disagree about the placement of the focus, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Thank you so very much! I just wanted to try something different. I also did this with selective color but did not look as good. I find myself not having the time as I have returned to work, even on a part time basis. I get tired and don't feel like working on pictures. I guess at age 66 makes a big difference than in my 20's .

66 is nothing Willie. I will be 70 i August. LOL You are more than welcome for the review, and I hope you are all fine.

Sometimes I feel older than that.

Interesting patterns and colors. Nice control of depth of field to guide the eye to the top right third of the photo. It's nice to see that you did not over use vibrancy or saturation, but let the pencils reveal their real color. Nice perspective, rather than straight down on the tips. Well done.

Excellent subject choice.
Diagonal framing looks interesting.
Selective focusing with that Tiffany green as the only sharp among all colored tips.
Narrow DOF.
Best of luck in the contest!
