I have never seen these flowers before Aimee, and they are truly stunning. They actually look a bit like lilies when I look at the stamens. Your photo has a strong visual impact because of the strong red colors, and it is also a very nice entry into this contest.
The flowers are standing out so sharp and well defined against the green foliage, and it is such clear and well defined details to be seen both in the petals and the stamens. I also think the exposure is spot on.
The tight cropping is working well, and of course it is perfect that the flowers are filling the frame. A truly lovely and well taken flower photo with a very good DOF, and I wish you luck with the contest.

This is beautiful....and a perfect entry for this contest! You have captured a brilliant color of red with it's typical vibrant saturation and yet have still sustained your detail and contrast. Your bg is perfect as well...telling the story of where this flower lives and yet giving it the complete stage. You have one strong focal point in the variegated flower. Nice job placing that only near the center of your frame and between two flowers displaying their centers strongly....equaling a number 3 in that grouping. Perfection! Your light is brilliant yet controlled ...and needed to show the details in that red. A strong contender in this contest! Best of luck!
