I think this is an original entry into a macro contest, and I especially like the simplicity of the photo. You have brought out so well the fine textures of the rope, and it is of course also standing out really well from the neutral background.
Your photo is pin sharp showing really clear and well defined details, and the exposure is perfect.
The tight cropping is working well and I like that the rope is placed closer to the top. I think this is a great looking and well taken photo with an excellent DOF, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Thanks Becky for your nice review. I think I finally figured out why I like your reviews. You say "photographic art" in this case vs just photography. Photography is a form of art, not just displaying pretty pictures. I think some just look at posts as pictures, "do I like it or not". But you look for the aspects that turn a picture into a piece of art. That takes a lot more perception and skill. So thank you for doing what you do, I am sure it keeps many of us around!!!

You are more than welcome my Allan...for something that you inspire. A review is sometimes like pulling teeth...finding ways to appreciate...which I most always do...and ways to find art...which is less often. You almost always have a photograph as art...seriously. How could you not? You have submitted many fine paintings/drawings here on FAR. You have submitted excellent photos with minor edits and your have stretched you wings into the mixed media arena. And you have been successful at all. There is no way that you are going to submit something that you have not created as a work of art...even subconsciously ... your photos are art. I really do like this one. I think I have a photo in my files of a hair braid that is very similar to this one. :d So thank YOU Allan!

This is a very interesting photo. You are right, the different patterns in the rope actually look pretty neat close up. The clarity is so perfect that you can see every little detail in those patterns. The framing and lighting are excellent as well. You did a wonderful job and I thank you for sharing this creative photo :)
