Hi Susan thanks for sharing this stunning photo of the The female Chaffinch. She is a delight.. You have really captured her nicely, and love the angle used to show off her markings on her wing area and top of her head. I appreciate your notes explaining how you created the amazing background and framework around her. It works brilliantly. I love the effect with the occasional branch framing her in a nicely balanced position .. The slightly blurred effect of the network of lines in the background make her really pop out of the framework. Very clever and truly appealing to the eye Susan. You have blended the colours nicely around her.. and the outer frame , toning in with her feathers is a great choice. Stunning effect . thanks for sharing this little feathered girl.. she's adorably cute.. a real pleasure to review and learn how you created the technique ... cheers mel

She looks a lot like our goldfinches, I like her shape and the markings. You got a nice clear shot of her with a good view of her feathers and face. I like how the background immediately behind her is very clear of any distractions.

Really nice. Love it. Excellent clear shot of the finch, and the paint shop pro work really helps to focus in on the bird. Plus the effect is very pleasing to the eye.

I like how you did this with the bird inside a ball. All the blue tones in the background go nicely with the tan branches. The twisted branches frame the bird and make for a nice composition. Good lighting and detail throughout the photograph.

A fantastic shot of another of your cruel globes you trap birds in and photography throughout the year....haha only kidding, It could be a modern day Brothers Grimm tale though eh! ;). A superb capture of this Chaffinch, captured with great clarity and sharpness, and positioned perfectly centrally in the globe with the surrounding brown branches and blurred grey/blue b/g accentuating the colours and details of this little bird further. The globe works brilliantly as it highlights the subject in all it's glory; the grey behind makes the whole piece stand out like a raindrop about to fall. Lovely work, well done :)

    Ed,
Thanks a million for your complementary review on this female Chaffinch, it's the first time I've managed to get a good clear picture of her where she's not moving.

I certainly recognize this bird feeder by sight. If this is female, she is a colorful little bird. Usually, the male is the one with all of the color. Nice compositiin. Well framed. Good focus. That bird feeder makes a natural frame. Like what you did to the background. Thank you for sharing and best of luck with this image

Visual impact and presentation is very creative and interesting. Color harmony is very pleasing. Love your framing technique. Lighting is beautiful as it is bouncing off the branches. Beautiful capture!

Another bird I do not think I have ever seen before. Like your edit of enclosing her inside this glass sphere. She seems to have given you her best side Susan.
Nice shot and creative edit.

Thanks a million for your great review on this little shy female Chaffinch, the males are much braver.
This will explain why you have not seen one of our most common birds in Ireland & England....The chaffinch breeds in much of Europe, across Asia to Siberia and in northwest Africa.
Sometimes we get birds from America that have been blown off course while migrating & then occasionally decide to stay.
The Little Egret for one & now this winter the Glossy Ibis has been seen in Co. Wicklow...an official from Bird watch Ireland says he thinks they may start breeding here due to Climate Change?
