Gee, I like this face. Gorgeous colors, glows, and I like the BG very well for his colors. Looks real to life. Expression of concern or that "let's go" face. Very good. More animals please! The eyes draw me inside and the mouth is brilliant. Perfect ears! Thanks for this one. More please.

Your tools of pastel and your blending and shading with color is exquisite. Your background color and use of light and shadows accentuates those richer tones of brown in the pug so beautifully. Hi James, thanks for sharing this delightful painting of Ian's pug. what an adorable face you have rendered using pastels on pastel board. You have really captured his personality. The markings on his face around his forehead and eye brows are beautifully blended with highlights of creams and light brown hues. The eyes really stand out under those raised brows. They are full of expression and brilliantly painted. The brown tonings with blackish pupils pop right out and seem to be staring right at me. The spec of white creates great reflection in the eyeballs. His nose with its black shiny effect is a great contrast to his grey black mouth area which tells a story all its own. The highlights on his chin and under his face give him appeal and emphasize his jaw line well. The little folded ears in darker brown, look soft and give him an inquiring appearance. Love the choice of background colour to compliment the subject. The brighter hue in the top left really sets a great balance to the picture and helps highlight his head .. A fabulous painting and true pleasure to review. well done James. and best of luck in the contest. cheers mel
