A photograph from Debs garden in which the subject can be found without a prerequisite knowledge of navigating by the stars and a ready supply of Duracell 'D's, is a rare shot indeed.
I like this one. Your eye and camera skill brings this bud alive, you can see the life force emanating from each fiber of its being - awesome.
I think budding stage is an under appreciated aspect of nature photography. Flowers in this early stage exhibit a much different posture. And still as different as they are from us, some aspects of their nature are common to us.
Look at how the infant blossom is carefully protected and cradled by the, what I will call, nurse leaves much the same way a human neonate is.
Technically this has all positives going for it.
Artistically & aesthetically it is a creative personification of the nurturing of new life.
Oh yeah, I like the bug on the left, gives the piece class ... B-)) Bob

LOL- "....without a prerequisite knowledge of navigating by the stars and a ready supply of Duracell 'D's" You are not only intelligent OPM but very witty too. THAT is a really good line!! Also like your assessment re: the protective nature of the leaves surrounding the bud. So true and a wonderful comparison to us. Have you ever heard of the book "The Secret Life of Plants?" I can't think of the author at the moment but there's a whole section on that. At any rate- thank you so much for another wonderful review- seriously good! ...and glad you liked the little Lady Bug I talked into hanging around to add some 'class' to my image....lol

Looks like a giant plum LOL. ; nice and big; good bright green petals; wonderful focus on the bloom; like the lighting; looks good enough to pick and eat but I know it would taste yucky; good work!

You are not the first one to see this as purple....or plum colored swimmer.....but definitely would not want to eat it. LOL It is actually brown but may look that way to me just b/c I know what it looks like in real life. You are a dear for having a look at this guy and I do so appreciate the shiny gold star you shared with it. Thank you VERY much!

Cool one BB. I like the details of the fuzz on the leaves. They accent that in your face dramatic purple center. Great shot here. I had to laugh when you said the immature flower is called a "Rud Bud". Now I don't want to be forward here, and I know Valentines Day is long past, but I was wondering: Will you be my "Rud Bud"? LMAO Man I can't even type that with a straight face! Sorry. Time for a Rum and Coke I think ; )

So, cool, Deb, and a little lady bug too. I so enjoy your horticultural lessons and this accompanying photo is just grand. The focus on the bud is spot on along with the superior color, especially those tinges of yellow. Very well done. Here is an idea for the new blooming season - do a series that shows the progressive stages of a bloom and maybe put it together as a collage. Could be neat. Ed,

You know that is a very good idea Ed.....a flower from birth on through to death in the garden.....lol Rather a dramatic way to phrase it but I really like the idea. I may spend the next couple of months deciding which blossom this would work best with. Thank you my friend for popping such a good idea into my head.....oh, and for the lovely review as well. Glad you liked my tiny little Lady Bug too...lol

Most welcome. Glad the idea came to me for a little selfish reason too because I would love to see it :).

I will dedicate it to you as soon as I decide which flower to use....well, and when the snow is all gone...lol

Very good Sean! Took me forever to figure out years ago why anyone would have referred to this flower as 'Ox Eye' and you got it immediately! Smart guy! Thank you so much for having a look....and for the 'Good Show' I always look for that.

Excellent shot! Showing the textures of the leaves and the filaments without being overwhelmed by white reflection...well done!
I like the color of your bud... And love the title! ha!
Your bg is lovely. Your dof is surrounding your flower perfectly...with the surrounding leaves on the left and the more distant garden in the upper right. A nice diagonal feel to this frame. Scientific, artistic and a pleasure to view.

Isn't that a great title Becky! Must admit I was pretty pleased when I thought of it....lol Love your assessment of "scientific and artistic" Such an interesting dichotomy, yes?? Thank you so much for having a look at my RUD Bud and especially for the really REALLY nice review. Always a pleasure to read YOUR take on one of my pieces....and I like this one a lot.

I absolutely love black eyed Susan's but I never seen on from birth. This is absolutely beautiful. Color and lighting are nice and you did a nice job with the composition, framing focus and dof. Thanks for sharing

"...from birth" lol good way to put it Linda. I like to photograph my flowers at all stages....from birth all the way to death. Do appreciate you checking out my new post. Thank you so much too for the lovely review.

I don't know if Susan and Betty really exist but I'm quite sure they wouldn't appreciate that you take their portrait before a waxing session; lol;
a fantastic sharp macro and as usual very interesting notes;
