Very good entry for the contest. Quite a macabre looking image! I like how you placed everything and the black background works very effectively. Very good lighting and focus showing great detail. Good luck in the contest. Suzanne

What a great imaginative entry for the contest- very cool! Nicely composed, love the dripping black candle on the skull and your crow, looks like he's after those sweet, sweet eye juices-too late, looks like someone beat him to them-lol! Very creepy looking-LOVE IT-best if luck! :)

First thought was "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe.
"Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore--".
Great still life set up with creative magic used in the digital dark room.
Love the eeeeerie mood this evokes.
Great work!

Wow. This is a mixed media photo? I have no clue how you did this but it is a wonderful contest entry. I like it because it is out of the box and i am sure it will be an attention grabber compared to other ordinary photos of candles. Well done and best of luck in the contest ~ Steve

Hi there and thanks for freaking me out with some nice light reading before my bedtime.. What a laugh.. Love your photo and its amazing originality .. Excellent angle used to capture this unique collection of items that fit together oh so perfectly.. the small flame candle balancing on top of the skull head makes the perfect burning top hat I have ever sighted.. Its elegance is so becoming, and the dripping hot wax melting down the skull's face looks a real treat.
The expression on the face is saying. Get this thing off my head before I scream.. a mouthful of teeth that any dentist would be proud to own. Have to give thumbs up to that wicked black bird that looks like its head has already been burned.. He seems to be having a feast and has consumed the eyes of that charming face.. They do make an attractive pair.. sitting so proudly on the book pile. The books are well arranged and thankfully the candle in the foreground doesn't look as though it is likely to cause any threat to the pages within. Its golden glow which adds great movement to the scene with its imaginary flickering , becomes a good anchor in the picture. It grabs the eye with its intensity and allows me to focus on the magnificent setting behind it. good depth of field created by clever use of arrangement of these items. Love the black background .. it captures the intended atmosphere beautifully.. a spooky nightmare emotion that is enough to give me goose bumps.. great balance achieved with the skull becoming the focal point .. The exposure is perfect and due to the great clarity, I'm truly able to take a very careful inspection of those delightful set of teeth..
The books offer a nice firm base to set the stage.. The title of your photo fits it perfectly.. and indeed this would be my worst nightmare reading material without doubt.. fantastic approach to the candle contest. love it.. you nailed it on the head... thanks for sharing.. so much fun reviewing .. and best of luck in the contest. cheers mel
