Very amusing and well shot. I suspect it was drying its feathers but it does look like a dancer. Good focus and details. The back ground isn't the best but is what you had to deal with. Good lighting. Well seen.

    many thanks Charles;
    he had no reson to dry his wings;
    when he really dry his wings, they are fully stretched

I have never seen one carry on like this. A nicely detailed shot that shows the peculiar behavior very well. Great colors and fine composition. Good luck in the contest.

Hi there , this heron definitely wins the prize.. just check out that pose.. I think it's all to cute for words. Fantastic shot with perfect angle used to capture his / her amazing charm.. the exposure is perfect and the clarity is spot on. The scene is nicely balanced with a foreground of earthy tones and splashes of greenery on the slopes and an interesting background of foliage. The slightly blurred effect of the green and earth coloured foliage is effective and allows this stunning heron to really pop. I love the stance.. and for now I will assume she is female, because of her pretty tutu outfit... lol.. She is holding her head up high, looking so very proud of herself.. the orange beak positioned out front, to give her that lovely contrasting tone to her white and black feathered attire.. the long feathers that extend from the rear of her head, must be her fancy dress hat for the occasion ... and the beautiful frilly effect of the blackish feathers that trail down her long slender neck obviously are part of her party attire for the moment.. In my imagination I could envisage those coarser creamy feathers that sweep down her neckline loosely, represent her flowing scarf to offer her even further appeal to her onlookers ahead.. Now for those wings... omg... just the best tutu I have ever sighted.. beautiful greyish feathery texture with a black underlying hue around the outer edges.. what a fashion ... they are almost shaped like a big heart.. oh she must be truly trying her hardest to win something over right now... or someone... who would know.. she's captured my heart... and just to top the pose off. look at those elegant legs.... spindly shaped twig like delights that protrude from beneath those amazing feathers... I love your photo and the joyful feeling that emanated from within.. Thumbs up for this fancy dresser... she's a stunner.. . thanks so much for sharing.. an absolute delight to review. cheers mel. and best of luck in the contest..

A beautiful & unusual pose by this Grey Heron I wonder if it is part of a mating dance as he tries to attract a mate? Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

I wonder if there was a female around that he was showing off for. Very interesting! Beautiful framing with low lighting and nice clear focus. A very intriguing capture. Got to wonder what he was doing. Lol

What an unusual pose you captured. He sort of looks like me trying to follow the instructor in Jazzercise. He certainly appears very proud of himself. Thanks for the smiles.

Good for you that he posed like this and you were able to capture him in this humorous pose! He does look like a ballerina with a tutu and all! Well photographed with good focus, the image is clear to view, well controlled lighting , natural colors and tones, nice detail throughout, good eye contact! Nice placement in the frame, I like the natural surroundings. He's really beautiful and stands out well! I really enjoyed viewing this one! Best to you in the contest!
