a very good entry to this contest kristi with the close up portrait of Mr. Blaise posing so nicely for you;
sharp focus, just a few white areas blown out; in order to avoid loss of details in the black areas, the only solution is to increase the dynamic range for similar pics;

I like the black and white version and the tight framing. The eyes are especially impressive. Unfortunately, the white content got blown at the mouth and above the nose, which caused a leak of detail. Try to decrease the exposure of the bright area partially. Use the selection to work on this area only. I am not sure it will work, but it is worse a try. The nose is not as clear as the eyes. That's happen because your focus was on the eyes, but the nose was closer to the camera. If you do a similar shot in the feature, go not go too close to your subject with the lens and set focus on the whole head. You always can crop if to much background is captured. Use a low ISO, 80 maybe less, to avoid blow outs.

Oh what a sweet face with those almost pleading looking eyes. My dog, which looks similar, has those same eyes when wanting a treat. Good choice in rendering in Black and white. I do think that the white on the snout is just a tad overexposed giving a slightly washed out appearance. Not a big thing as that face and those eyes are the real focus. Well done Kristi and best of luck in the contest ~ Steve

Now those pleading eyes would be hard for any dog lover to resist. Her expression is great and I like the black and white rendering. Best of luck in the contest.

Hi Kristi well with a look like that how could you not give him a treat.. Thanks for sharing Blaise's awesome photo.. such a beautiful capture of his adorable face.. perfectly exposed and the focus and lighting spot on. As I stare into his lovable eyes I can see that pleading joyous expression coming out to greet me.. and I can hear him thinking. so where the heck is my share... come on ... What a pretty face .. Is he a border collie. reminds me of one of my dogs from the past.. love those little lighter splashes of hair over his eyes.. they are contributing to that questioning stare... his soft furry black ears are folded down neatly in a very submissive mood.. as if he would do absolutely anything to gain that yummy food you are devouring in front of him.. Even the party opened mouth completes the delightful anticipation coming from his body language.. I can imagine in the next breath he will be drooling as well. Your photo really shows off his beautiful coat of hair.. the distinctive markings on his face and ears in black and that ever so cute white streak that runs through his forehead and around his snout.. love the titled head position which gives him even more appeal.. with those white whiskers adding to his facial glee. have to love his look that's for sure.. so hard to say no when all he is offering is love in return.. yes, an all too familiar expression. and how strong can we remain ..... he looks like a well cared for boy who receives an abundance of love.. I can see a soft sweet nature coming through his eyes.. and please give him a hug from me.. and well, maybe a treat too. thanks so much for sharing Blaise .. and his manipulating expression.. how absolutely too cute... a real joy to review. . best of luck in the contest.. cheers mel
