Hi Carl, I was amazed when I read this was an earlier work of yours. I think these are your signature colors that you use today. I find that amazing. This painting is very eye-catchy with it's fiery reds and bold yellows. Nice contest entry, too.

Thank you for your five star vote and your comments Karen. Earth's Heart was done in 1970, Earth's Heart II was done in the late 1980's (I think), and this one, Earth's Heart III was done in 2016. I do seem to like the hot colors.

I have yet to grasp onto the abstract. I prefer realism.
I love the contrast of all the different light and dark colors.
Mostly I like how the yellow stands out in the middle.
Great job, thanks for sharing.

Thank you for your five star vote and your comments Minnie. And, as I have said before I am a grandpa. I still have a difficult time understanding abstracts as well as why my brother-in-law wanted the first one, my niece wanted one and my 45 year old daughter wanted one and why that one won a third place prize in a Fusion Art contest. Just go figure.

Very nice abstract full of fire and fury. Nice use of color to create this image. Good sense of movement and flow in the pieces. The size of this must have presented you with many challenges. Well seen, well conceived and well executed. Good luck in the contest.

The colors are beautiful and the composition is very attractive. It is a little like looking into a fissure and seeing the molten magma beneath a volcano.

The heart of the earth is fiery, ans the painting says that perfectly. The colors are bright and remind me of a furnace which is what the center of the earth is. Your A was well earned.

Thank you for your five star vote and comments Nancy. Your word furnace brought back the genesis memory that created the core of when I first did this painting. It is at the heart of my memory each time I have done this painting. You see, once upon a time when I was a steel worker in my youth I was removing fire brick from a warming oven. A warming oven is used to keep steel ingots hot orange with that yellow center before they are moved out to be rolled in monstrous steel rollers to roll beat the steel ingots into I-Beams, H- beams and that sort of stuff.

The first surface of the fire brick has to be removed by hand, not really by your hand, but with a pick and spade tool. A person can stand full upright in the soaking oven. Anyway, there is a ten minute time limit of work before you are replaced with another worker. When I went over the ten minutes by I don't know how long, the foreman came in grabbed my coat by the back of the neck, dragged me out and threw me on the floor. Another worker sprayed me with a hose. I saw steam rising from my work garments, boots and gloves. When I got sprayed in the face, reality revisited me. He reached down, grabbed me in the front of my coat, picked me up to stand on my feet, looked me hard in the eyes and said something to the effect of, "10 minutes is 10 minutes. Go over there and sit down until I call you." The foreman, Mr. Hunt was a big man, and very gentle until when otherwise needed.

Interesting info notes.

A warm creation with dabbed textures resulting to a cleaner no-shape abstraction.

Effective use of dark & light strokes.
A visual treat with great tonal range.
Subtle illumination.
Sharply focused.
Nice vignette effect...

Thanks for sharing...
