Hi there, found this in your profile but as it's a blind contest I'll be good and not mention you by name.. Absolutely fantastic photo.. It has so many levels of beauty and the first ...are those amazing rocks in the foreground. Their richness and textural value are stunning. the deep earthy hues have caught the setting sunlight's rays nicely, making them come alive in my mind's eye. particularly the larger rock with its golden glow.. it looks like a piece of gold that is shining so brightly it has its own warm emotion flowing from within .. the reddish hue on the face of some smaller rocks adds to the richness of the anchoring subject in your scene. Love the splashing white wash from the incoming tide as the waves crash upon the rocky ledge.. and the sunrays have worked their magic on the spray that surges upward against the forces of nature. its red/golden appearance is both eye catching and a delightful contrast between the rocks and the blanket of sea that lies beyond it. The white wash creates a nice border of contrasting colour also as it stretches along the rock bed.. An interesting white object is nestled in among the rocks on the left of the scene. hard to detect whether it is in fact a rock covered with microscopic organisms or something man made .. the ocean's surface has a delightful glow over its surface from the magnificent sunset above and the rippling waves offer a fabulous feeling of movement on the seas at that time. As the ocean meets the sky there is a lovely deep tone along the distant horizon
which forms a great border along the base of Jack Sparrow's mighty ship.. What a fabulous old ship with its masts boasting those sails blowing in the breeze.. The flying flags add to its character and appeal as it sails across the vast seas.. so much rigging and rope amid its framework and with a solid hull to support the sails. a most gallant vessel with great visual appeal.. It offers good depth of field to the scene as it sails by. The sunset is magnificent. that rich golden hue that sits upon the horizon brings a feeling of warmth and joy to the scene.. made more powerful by the darker hue of cloud cover that sits over.. offering that orange hint of delight amid the grey black cover that spreads itself into the distance beyond. The two contrasting tones serve each other beautifully to bring out the boldness of both hues. The dark silhouette of the ship stands out brilliantly against that bold yellow glow. a lovely inclusion that really brings the picture to life.. Perfect time for Jack Sparrow to go sailing past .. Love the angle used to capture your view.. It allows the eye to concentrate upon the rocks and travel into the distance to enjoy another dimension with the vessel and the fabulous sunset sky. placing all these features together as one, brings forth the most amazing delight in my mind's eye. where serenity rocks, tranquility rules and a warm and inviting emotion soothes the soul. Love your photo.. thanks for sharing and it has been such a joy and absolute treasure to review. best wishes in the contest.. cheers mel

Aw. Thanks so much BB. I see you are back in the swing of things. Snow is gone, mud drying up and I bet there are little green shoots coming up every where. If you hear a noise late at night and see a flashlight beam waving around Don't sick the dog on me! Hope you are having a great weekend BB ~ BB

Lovely golden hour image. The colors are lovely. Nice action in the water. Great reflection off the rocks. The only thing, in my opinion is the ship would balance the image better if it were closer to the right side of the image. Well done

Thank you so much for your review and suggestion. I agree with your idea. I tried that and it cut too much of the red clouds out. I decided to cut just a bit and still leave those beautifully lit clouds. I appreciate your suggestion and hope you will continue to offer any ideas on how to improve the images I post. Thank you so much again for your great review.

Love what you've done with this shot of the impressive seascape with the majestic boat almost on the horizon and the setting sun casting its glow on the foreground rocks, spray and sea, also on the clouds in the sky. Excellent lighting and focus. Lovely composition. Good luck in the contest. Suzanne

Question is if the Black Pearl returns, who will be the Captain?
Captain Jack or Captain Farkle?
;)
Nice sunset capture with nice low key/ambient like light. Great stop action on both the ship and the impact splash of the water hitting the rocks.
Focus, details and POV are all fine.
Only tiny thing is it's a tad bright upper right.
Great title, fine capture and fine view.
;)

Ah great question. Captains Jack and Farkle were working out a compromise, over a grog and coke, when a ner-do-well scoundrel chose to throw his peg leg into the fray. Calling himself Captain Crunch, he claimed to command the loyalty of a large number of hard core followers....mostly children we suspect. Sparrow and Farkle determined that he was simply a flake and chose the high road to respond. They threw him overboard. That was easy. Now, what were we talking about?

Thank you for the review Bud. I agree that the upper right corner is too bright and does detract. I tried a few things even cropping in. Unfortunately this is about as good as it gets. Sparkle is Underwhelmed but says it will do but not to let it happen again. Hey, who is Farkle to argue? Have a great week Bud.

Beautiful composition. The cloud formation along with the ocean form a perfect triangle frame for this ship. Colors are wonderful as the sun sets. Good job. Susan

What a great image to represent Captain Jack Sparrow! Love those movies! This could very well be the Black Pearl. It definitely looks like a pirate ship. Love seeing it against the sunset with the crashing waves on the coast. Love where you positioned the ship in the image. Good Luck in the April Open Challenge! :o)
