I really like the sunset sky and the reflected light on the waves, rocks, and driftwood in this composition. The boat on the horizon makes my mind wander to stories of pirates and sunken treasure. Best of luck in the contest.

This is a stunning shot. The way that the ship is shadowed, it really does make it look like a pirate ship lol. I love the bright sunset and how it creates so many colors in those clouds and reflecting onto the water and the rocks. The angle is perfect and shows off ever little detail. Well done and thanks for sharing this scene with us. :)

Wow. Thank you so much Chanler for your wonderful review and artistic comments. Thank you especially for your Grand rating. I may have already mentioned in my reply, and I want to say that I do so admire your works and value your thoughts and opinions. I will be most appreciative is you will tell me any aspects of an image that could use improvement. Even a six star scene has some room for improvement. So if you will, please help me to become a better photographer by pointing out those things that I do not see. OK? Thank you again my friend.

You're welcome and don't worry I will be honest with you. I still cannot see anything that I dislike or anything that could be improved. If I ever notice anything I will let you know though ok? Maybe others will have some advice for you.

Great title for this lovely shot. As you have demonstrated before, you have mastered the art of stopping wave action with your IPhone. So pretty. The colors are divine and the ship's silhouette is amazing. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! The golden hour with the ship in the distance and your wonderful foreground interest make this a stunning sunset scene. An excellent composition with a good balance of shapes and tones and nice movement in your scene. Outstanding work on this one.....thanks for sharing. A good contender in the April 2018 Open Challenge and good luck.

Oh thank you so much Mary Lynn for your wonderful review and technical comments. Thank you so much for the Grand rating.

Do you think that the rocks in the lower left are a just a bit too dark? I am not sure if we are allowed to ask such questions of photos in a contest, but I value your opinion and wonder what you think. Someone mentioned it and I am just not sure. Any thoughts?
reply by Stringbean on 30-Apr-2018
I usually like the foreground dark.....but yours has such interest. You might just try painting with the doge tool or in light room I have the radial filter.... just some areas where you think the light would be hitting the rocks and just see if you like it better...if you did that it would add more interest in the foreground. Wow what a great shot Steve.....whichever way you decided it's awesome!

Thanks Mary Lynn. I agree. A bit more pizzazz in some of the rocks would definitely help. I will revisit this and check it out. Thank you for for your thoughts.

This is a stunning presentation. Technically, I think, it is flawless: the figures are beautifully proportioned, the composition is carefully and intelligently thought out, and the light and shadow effects are exquisite. Overall, this make compulsive viewing. Good luck in the contest!

Excellent choice of subject with dramatic, sharply focused silhouette against an amazing skyline!

Dynamic wave splash frozen in time & space, accentuates aesthetically.
Pin sharp focusing. Subdued lighting. Visually balanced framing.
Good perspective & long depth of field...
Should do well at the polls!

Thanks for sharing...

An excellent posting for the contest, Your post production with the filter look good. The stop action on the waves on the rocks and the sunsetting as the ship sails off makes a good scene for a pirate movie.

Only one aspect, which not sure if it is correctable. leaving room for an object to move across the frame, or going out in the background, or coming towards the viewer. A deeper dof and in a different position when taking the photo is the only way I can see in this case. Keep in mind this is a rule of general photography. This is still a very good photo

This is just stunning and probably one of the better photos I saw this month. Love the way the sun is reflection on the water and rocks. The sunset is dramatic and the ship is placed just right in the photo. Good luck in the challenge.
