colourful critter, nice palette of colours used and the structure of your piece has come across nicely.I would have liked a little more tonal control on the subject to give him depth but generally a good presentation

Very good entry for the contest and interesting notes accompanying this. You've achieved a very colourful spider with your mixture of coloured inks and pastels. Love the colours you used for this and the detail in the legs. Very imaginative composition. Good luck in the contest. Suzanne

This is a great drawing that shows with fantastic detail, proportion and use of mixed techniques this fascinating and unusual spider in all its glory. So strange for me as I only saw this type of spider for the first time in photograph about 2 weeks ago, and was amazed by it's unusual and beautifully complex and colourful structure - despite being a little wary of spiders myself I have a fascination with them, and now I see a great piece of art that shows it superbly too!! Lovely and careful use of bright and bold colours of the abdomen, with intricate use of differing blue hues and red patterns, and the head and eyes that stand out and shine wonderfully. The hairy legs are in great proportion and the odd pose it takes, with 2 legs in the air that is perhaps defensively or some kind of mating stance - is drawn with great precision and use of grey/brown hues. The brown rock like B/G that it scuttles along has a great blend of colours and shades, with well merged greens and a defined change in shape which adds depth and perspective to top it off. A great piece, well done :)

Thank you for your stellar review.

Magnificent colors even though contrived. The detail is very good. You must have spent a long time on this. My only suggestion is that I might create a square composition. There is too much empty space at the top. It is also very bright up top which is distracting.

Thank you very much Robert. The colors are actually the color of this particular spider from Australia.

I like colors also, so yor spider being filled with such color attracts me to view even more, Just a normal spider color would be boring. I do not all what goes into your type of art, but I like the results, thanks for sharing

Oh yes, at the size of a pencil eraser you would not have much of an image.

Well I have never heard of this spider before and you did a beautiful job of illustrating it in all its detail.
I love the vibrant color of its abdomen, and was wondering are they colored like this to the naked eye.
They remind me of a jumping spider with the prominent eyes.
Beautiful work and very interesting and informative artist notes. Best of luck in the contest.

This is a very unique piece of art in several ways.
First if all, most spiders, as you mentioned in your description, are neutral colored, such as brown or black, but this one catches the eye with its red, blue and green. Another thing I find interesting about this picture is the pose of the spider, as though it is dancing.
You did a great job in the detail of the spider's hairy texture on its body and legs.
I also think the background was well schemed and blended.
The only thing I would suggest is a bit more dark to contrast the light values in this composition.
Thank you for sharing this work!
