This is a wonderful close-up shot of the bird! You have framed it well. The light and shadows, colours and the composition have worked out well. Good effort!

Grace as you know I'm not a photo geek .. I can't even spell camera much less operate one .
The questions are , is lens like four feet long . Were you across the lake when you shot this . Do you do any under cover work , like it movies ?

Keep on shooting cause your good !

Lol!! Oh, too funny. Funny you should ask...I specialize in under cover work!
I was actually very close to this guy (for once!), about four feet away. I have so many shots of birds that are way too far away for my lens, so I was happy to be so close to this one.
Thank you for your flattering & humorous review and the smiles :) And for the six stars, that is nice too.

a great portrait of this mallard with one eye watching you as he try's to rest, the background really set the details and textures of it feathers off, an the light hitting him really set the colors of his feathers off also, a pleasure to look at, thank you for sharing. dale

Mallards are such photogenic ducks and this is a wonderful closeup shot of one trying to get some rest despite someone pointing a camera at him. Great detail and colors.

What I like the best about this photo is the close and personal approach. It is also lovely the way the light is falling on the bird, and you have captured so well the fine shine in the feathers and the eye.
Your focus is spot on and sharp showing such clear and well defined details in every part of the duck, and the exposure is perfect.
The format and tight framing works so well and the bird has got a very good placement within the frame. Indeed a lovely and well taken photo Grace, and with an excellent DOF.

Great focus and amazing detail. For some reason I feel an old man in this image. Framed perfectly. Great color and clarity. He looks very bothered with you taking a photo as he tries to nap.
I am glad he did not get feisty with you.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Stunning Use of Natural light here G~Lu. This has a portrait studio like look with a low key style.
Love his half closed eye wanting sleep but determined to keep his eye on you.
Colors, highlights, focus and DOF are all handled well.
Unique, beautiful and simply put:

Thank you Sange! I had worried that it may be too low key or dull colored, so it's good to hear otherwise :)

Lovely capture of this beautiful male Mallard trying to take a nap while you're taking his picture, with the light shining on him making his colourful feathers glisten. Excellent lighting and focus showing a beautifully crisp image. Lovely composition Grace. Suzanne
