From the perspective of the gator, it appears as that you used a somewhat wide lens an took this image from not too far away. This image does an excellent job of showing the brute that this creature is - powerful and ruthless.
The one negative in it for me, is what appears to be a curved man made object.
Like the image for its excellent job of depicting the power of the subject with excellent story telling. Not a critter that I would want to have a close encounter with.

It was my Tokina 100mm Macro and I was not that far away from him. It was a captive area so that is why you see the curve there which is the pond edge. :) You have a good eye :) Thanks so much Charles.

From the apparent distance and look on the gators face, assumed that a barrier existed or even I would not have gotten that close. I gather that they are capable of a rather rapid short burst.
The only ones that I have encountered in the wild were quite small.

You have really captured the stealthy laziness of this alligator. He looks so benign and peaceful lying in the sun. But we both know he can snatch prey in a millisecond.
