Such a wonderful portrait of this cute little bird! You have photographed this very well. The light and color are beautiful, the sharpness is excellent, and the bird is well positioned in the frame. I've seen Red Winged Blackbirds around here but I've never seen a fledgling.

Thank you for the nice review :) I was watching the mama and she inadvertently led me right to the babies! They were hidden very well and blend into the ir surroundings pretty well!

I have several similar shots of these wee ones hidden in the reeds waiting for Mom to bring them a snack. It is interesting to see the same reeds where you are. Have you ever seen the nest mom weaves in these reeds? It's a work of architectual genius/art.
Greenie Girl, your focus, white balance, clarity, colors and crisp details are all spot on here.
Excellent bird Photography with fine knowledge behind your lens.
:)

Thank you very much Sange :) The process of the nest making is pretty interesting, the female even plasters the inside with mud to shape the cup before lining it with slender dry grasses. I read that in the 1930s naturalists took apart a nest, and found that it was made with 142 cattail leaves woven together with 34 strips of willow bark. Some of the leaves were two feet long.

Super cute baby ! Well photographed, good sharp focus, the image is clear and well exposed, shows good detail and the natural colors and tones, nice eye contact complete with a catch light. Well composed in this natural surrounding, this gives a sense of the location of this fledgling in the marshland. Well presented!

This is a good shot, I think.
The reeds make good camouflage for the baby, yet your picture shows it quite clearly.
Nicely done.

This little baby bird is so cute, and it could not have posed for you in a more lovely way. I find the background very interesting as well, and the bird is standing out from it in such a nice way.

Your photo is of course also sharp and it is such clear and well defined details to be seen in the head and the feathers of the bird. The exposure is spot on.

The format and framing is perfect and the bird has got a very good placement off to the right. A truly cute and well taken photo Grace, and with a very good DOF.

Great catch. The fledgling is definitely waiting for a meal. The photo is clear and very natural. You think you could reach out and pick up the little bird. Good choice for a photo! Well done.

I love how nature allows them to blend in with their surroundings. The beautiful golden browns of the reds are mimicked in the tips of her body feathers and her face. It must have been a thrill to watch the mama bird in action.

Thank you! I was lucky to see this little one with how well he was blending into the background, and he is much tinier than the picture makes him look :)

A beautiful picture of this newly fledged Redwing Blackbird in among the reeds head turned looking at you it's mottled plumage giving it a good camouflage from animals or birds of prey that might like it for dinner. Beautiful composition framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you! I do like how animals are often made to camouflage into their surroundings.
