I do not see Johnathan the Seagull but I do see Pete the Pelican flying into the sunset.
Gorgeous orange color, fine sunset glow on the water, nice stop action of the Pelican in flight and I like the addition of the silhouette person in lower right.
Fine message telling the parable of Johnathan the Seagull who followed Kipling's Creed. He dealt with lies, twisted truths, success and failure. Through it all Johnathan kept after his pursuit of the freedom of his true self.
Nice work Captain Farkle ;)

ARRRR. The first to spot me mate Pete. True enough. But the Captain has a secret: Pete and Jonathan are Related. You see Pete's mother and Jonathan's mother.....well they were both Mothers. Which makes them Brothers. So in this case Pete took the flight for the Captain to photograph while Jonathan was training the other gulls in straight and level flight.

Jonathan and Rudyard are so right. Freedom means not allowing others to dictate our actions or feelings. Reacting is Imprisonment and allowing others to control. Wise beings are Jonathan and Rudyard.

Thanks Bud for the wonderful review and insightful thoughts ~ Captain F

This scene is full of rich and beautiful color! I like how well you emphasized the light across the water. The silhouette of the bird looks great too.

Oh my goodness...I remember where and when I first read that book. You have capture the essence of the meaning in that story...completely. With your amazing sunset captures and your depth of knowledge in your editing and filters...You always end with a dramatically, beautiful composition filled with the mystery of Creation itself. I can simply stare at your images for several minutes and be pulled into them. Your style is your own. I believe I would know your work anywhere.... You are a true artistic photographer.

Thank you for sharing and yes... I am feeling more free by the day! nature rules!

Oh my special ks. I am completely at a loss as to what to say. Your words are overwhelming. As we are ks's I feel compelled to tell you something. I know why you have chosen to leave and that is a good reason....FOR MOST. As an FYI I too am now in the crosshairs. Obviously because of you and Deb. My first reactions were the predictable ones: Revenge, plotting how to do this or that, considering quitting FAR, yada yada yada. Then, while looking for something to post I came upon this one. It hit me very hard and spoke to me. I worked on it a bit and then went to You Tube to listen to the author read the story. It was then that I realized that I was a prisoner of my own reactions to what I took personally. Oh my. Talk about being UN-FREE. I was acting just like the Flock in the story. Jonathan reminded me of what true Freedom really IS. The Freedom to BE Who I AM. Some may disagree and that ok. In fact that is something that Must happen on our journey to Freedom. I have learned that for me to feel FREE does not and Must not depend upon others.

OK ks, enough preaching. I am Not going to allow this to interfere with my journey. I believe God has given me and you many gifts to share with people on FAR and it is Not up to me or you to deny that gift to them. They have done nothing wrong and I will not selfishly take it out on them. So the bottom line is for me to return hatred with kindness, bad thoughts with good. As a therapist I must Always consider the person who is really hurting and lashing out.

Not sure why I said all this. Truly did not mean to offend you ks. This is a profound learning moment for me and maybe you too ks. Time to 'Move Beyond'.

Thank you so much ks for your fabulous review and rating. THE Most important thing is that You were touched, as it was meant to be.

"The logic of worldly success rests on a fallacy: the strange error that our perfection depends on the thoughts and opinions and applause of other men! A weird life it is, indeed, to be living always in somebody else's imagination, as if that were the only place in which one could at last become real!?

You of course are trying to make me see through the mud.... if there hadn't been flat out action that falsely slandered my name and used my email I could have gotten past it. You can cover for me!! :)

Steve, an outstanding visual with such beautiful setting sun colors.

With that perfect catch of the "jonathan" soaring by.

One of my favorite books and of course the music by Neil Diamond.

Also takes me back to my other favorite group "flock of seagulls".

Love job my friend.

Oh thank you so much Eileen. I loved the book and I have heard "Flock of seagulls" but it has been quite awhile ago. Thank you Thank you for your wonderful review and rating. But the most Important thing to me is that it Touched YOU. THAT is the Only thing that counts. Thank you again my dear friend ~ Steve

Very nice and colorful image. You have captured the gull in flight at exactly the correct moment to highlight the sun. Nice reflection on the water that accentuates the movement in the water. I do wish the person in the lower right was a little more visible or part of the image. Good control of the sun's brightness. well seen.

Thanks a lot Charles for your detailed and artistic review and comments. Yes I agree that the man in the corner is a bit underemphasized. I will see what I can do about that. Good point. Thanks again Charles for your sharp artistic eye ~ Steve

This is an amazing sunset and the lonesome seagull and title make it even more spetacular. I remember the book. Love the human in the corner taking on the view.

I just love the golden colors in this photo, and the beam of light across the sun.- It almost looks like the sea was made of hammered gold.

Your photo is also crisp and clear and both the bird and the person down to the right are standing out well. I also think the exposure is very good.

The photo is nicely cropped and the person on the right work as a nice balance to the bird and the sun. Good timing as well to get the bird just above the setting sun. A truly lovely and well taken photo Steve, and with a very good DOF.

Love your photo and your notes attached. The image does remind you of Johnathan Livingston Seagull. You have captured the seagull right as he is crossing before the sun. The exposure and lighting on this are stunning. How long did you have to wait for the bird to do what you wanted. Great shot, Steve.

Thank you so much Karen for your kind review and comments. I originally saw this scene and thought it would be a good shot with the individual in the lower right corner. There were birds flying around and I waited for one to hopefully come close to the sun. When I saw this one potentially going that way I used burst mode as it approached, crossed and flew beyond the sun. This one seemed most appropriate for the title. Thank you again Karen for your artistic review and comments ~ Steve
