I so much agree with you about what you are writing in your notes, because half the work taking a special photo is to see the unusual. Just like you have done with this photo. Where others are seeing an old piece of wood, perhaps you saw a prehistoric creature.

Then of course you picked the right moment when the sun was in a perfect position. I also like how the rays from the setting sun is falling on the golden flowers in the foreground.

Your photo is nice and sharp showing clear and well defined details, and the exposure is very good.

The photo is nicely cropped, and I think it is a very good balance in the composition. Indeed a different, great looking and well taken photo and with a very good DOF. Good luck with the contest Steve.

Thank you so much Annie for your wonderful review and commentary. I had to lie flat on the ground to place the sun where I wanted it. This was a fun one as there are scenes with the sun balancing on the Dragons' snout and other places. I always appreciate your artistic thoughts and especially your Very Generous rating. Thank you so much Annie ~ Steve

I can't count how many times I have been flat on my belly taking photographs. LOL In many of your photos you have placed the sun in such lovely ways, and you are more than welcome both for the review and the stars.

Steve,
A beautiful picture of the dragon shaped branchof a fallen tree with the end shaped like a Dragon's head in silhouette against the glowing disc of the setting sun that it almost covers below in the undergrowth a single golden flower is also glowing a golden ray from the setting sun. Artistic composition framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

Thanks Troop. Actually I took this shot last summer on Mount Scott. I was visiting the old battalion area, scheduled for demolition, when I decided to go and catch a sunset in the Wildlife refuge. Cool looking log on he ground. Had to lay flat on my stomach to get the angle. I appreciate your thoughts Mark. Love how the pictures for the song are coming along. Thanks again ~ Top

Not sue. There are so many new buildings on post that I had a hard time navigating around. Man that place has changed so much. That post that we knew is a thing of the past man. Like they say, 'the only thing that stays the same is change.'

Such an intuitive piece for the imagination. The detail in the color variations within the sunsetting, creates an inviting setting of the imagination.

Excellent capture, Steve, showing your dragon highlighted against the sun - looks like a relative of our Loch Ness Monster! I've always loved looking at the clouds with my kids and my grandchildren and seeing how many creatures we could see there. Very good lighting and focus. Love the angle you used for this. Excellent composition. Suzanne

Hey Bruce! I really appreciate you taking the time to take a look at this scene. The shape of the log immediately caught my eye and I had to lie flat on the ground to get the angle. really appreciate your review and thoughts ~ Steve

What an interesting photo, the way you angled the shot created a completely new image. I'm definitely seeing a dragon here and your notes are so true! I often get strange looks from my friends when I point out things in nature that share a resemblance to something else. I try to tell them to stop rotting their brains with reality tv then maybe they'll see what I mean lol. I wouldn't be surprised if an author uses this image, great presentation and thank you for sharing!

Yes,this looks so very much like a mythical dragons' head and neck silhouetted against the setting sun as It readies for it's nocturnal flight .You have captured the dying orb behind the dragon's nostril and slightly opened mouth ,as it prepares to set in a cloudless sky.One can almost imagine a wisp of smoke escaping into the stillness of the surrounding air. A very beautiful and imaginative photo,Steve, definitely a pleasure to view! LeeAnn

This is indeed a beautiful image.
Nice to see the colours of the setting sun, the silhouetted "dragon" and the foreground light that really enhances the images.
Then there is those mid-tones to add some drama and really make one shiver! Love it!

Outstanding in my view.

Hi Steve, This is a pretty cool shot! Looks like both a dragon or a huge anaconda. I had no trouble seeing what you did. Love the crispness of the shot. The silhouette adds to the image by letting our imagination take hold. Great Job and fun to view! :o) Nancy
