I like how well the upward rays of light can be seen in this image. The colors are lovely and I think framing the dock and the rope in the foreground off to the side adds an attractive sense of balance to the scene.

I have a little girl who use to go to our church, her dad passed away from ALS, when she sees clouds like this she calls them rapture clouds., cause they will let her see her daddy. The picture is wonderful. The artist out did HIM self.

You have such a good eye in scenes like this, Steve. The placement of the dock pole and rope are the perfect offset for the rays of the sun. The reflection of the sunset in the water is really pretty. Your application of filters renders a really lovely shot. I do see noise in the sky but, that's hard to escape when shooting in low light like this. Maybe application of a de-noise filter? This is a very worthy entry into this contest. Best of luck with it!

Thank you Donna for your review and comments. Yes there is a bit of noise and I did use a denoise filter. I even lowered the sharpness and clarity to smooth it out but I thought it lost some of the Drama that I wanted to express. Great observation Donna. Yes only using an iPhone does have limitations and darkness is definitely one of them. That is why I stick with it as it is always such a challenge to get it close to being right. Thank you so much again Donna. I know you are leaving and I just want you to know I will miss you and your instructive reviews and thoughts ~ Steve

I didn't know that IPhone7 was an indication that you are shooting with an IPhone. Dude...you are very talented. I'd love to see what you do with a DSLR! Ever shot with a DSLR or are you a solid IPhone shooter?

Actually I have a Canon PowerShot SX410 IS. It can do some amazing things that my iPhone just can't do. I have only used it a few times because it can do so many things that I get confused - I didn't know until a few weeks ago that apparently I had a mini stroke sometime in the past and that explains why I have a hardtime remembering some things (Actually I think it happened when I was in Grad school during my second Masters and now I know why I suddenly had to really struggle to get through). Anyway, it is pretty complicated but mostly I am too lazy to learn how to use it. I am going to Mexico in December for 5 months - one of the places is where I took this shot - and I am going to take it with me and force myself to learn. The other thing is that the iPhone with it's limitations makes it such a cool challenge to compete with you Pro photographers that I have to work that much harder to 'get it right'. Anyway, didn't mean to ramble on. So that is a long answer to your short question LOL So I will see what I can do with the Canon.

Were you sitting on the dock of the bay watching the clouds roll away? This is stunning. I love the beautiful colors in the sky and the reflection of those colors in the water. I like that you put the post and rope off to the side. A lot of people would not have even added that part. Such a beautiful evening.

LOL. Yes Mary that is the song that ran through my head as I saw this scene as I was standing on a dock on Lake Chapala, Mexico. It all just seemed to fall together as if it was meant to be. A I tell people, God sets up the scene and all I have to do is push the button. Thank you so much for your lovely review Mary ~ Steve

Phenonimal work. This is a wonderful photo that can make me feel the moment. The suns warmth peeking through the clouds. The wonderful warm tones, the coolness of the darkness. The warm reflections in the water. All superb to draw me in. What a wonderful spot. I wish you the BEST of luck in the contest! Great job!

This is a very exciting sunset. My only pause, when looking at, is the perspective of the fence post in the for ground. I am no expert to be judging this perhaps, although, I would have liked to step back slightly to give more attention to the sunset and less to the post. Well done nevertheless. E. Shields

Thank you very much shieldsE for your review and thoughtful feedback. Yes I could/should have stepped back a bit from the rope and post. Actually the original shot was back a bit but I cropped in to get the rope entering the scene from the lower right corner instead of somewhere in the middle of the right side. A great suggestion. I have to leave it this way for now but will take your idea into consideration when another opportunity like this comes up. I appreciate your honest and well thought out comments shieldsE ~ Steve

The clarity in this picture is fantastic. The colors for the sunset are true. The post and rope in front with the mountains in the back ground add interest. Makes it different. DOF, POV and focus are great. Love it, would put it on my wall.

This is beautiful, Steve. I love all the different shades of gold, orange, cream and brown in the sky, reflected in the water. I like that you included the post and rope in the foreground as this adds depth to the view. Excellent lighting and focus showing a lovely sharp image. Great composition. Good luck in the contest. Suzanne
