A gorgeous capture of the male Woodpecker with the peanut in it's mouth. Good timing with good facial expression. I think you low perspective is aiding in your composition. Perfectly cropped and well composed shot. I like your off central placement of the bird. Very well photographed with good lighting, sharp focus, and wonderful details in your image. Outstanding shot and thanks for sharing.

Excellent everything, including the composition, the colors and tones, sharpness. Yes, the peanut is like a lucky gift for him and makes this photo special and interesting! I love the red colors on the bird's head! Fine details and different textures, soft background... Useful information about the woodpeckers. There's so many reasons for the highest raiting! Bravo Grace! Happy New Year!!!

Beautiful shot! You capture all the detail in your subject. I like your title and knowing the bird is trying to eat a peanut give perspective to its size. For us peanuts are so small, but it looks enormous in his delicate beak!

Thank you for the extra star! The peanut does look huge in his beak. It was such a fun thing to see in person :)
I hope you are having a good holiday season and that your Christmas was nice.

Oh what a great scene here Grace. The colors are so well rendered and the feathers have a soft smooth look yet the focus is sharp. Wonderful pose with perfect placement in the frame.

A misnomer...;-)
Perhaps the one who gave the nomenclature had seen one with beak burrowed in the chest plumage--mistaken the head for belly.

Cute & amusing pose.
A rare find!

Thanks for sharing.

What a beautiful capture of a Red Belliee Woodpecker! Your focus and details on the bird are sharp and your DOF is smooth and non distracting.
I have never seen one with a peanut between it's bill.
Great stop Action and fine captured pose.
Great work behind your lens Greenie!!

Grace,
A beautiful picture of this Red bellied Woodpecker, his beak stretched to hold onto the Peanut in it's outer shell, perched high above you in the tree. Beautiful composition framing and lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus.

I like the soft light that brings out the color of his breast. In bright sun this is often lost. A well composed shot with excellent detail in the bird.
