Grace, this by far is one of my favorite shots of a blue in flight I've seen in quite a while!

the wing cutting the water is superb and your low dip capture of the head is so wonderful!

Great clarity and overall visual is one that brings this shot up a notch.

Great work!

Nice shot of this fascinating bird. I have spent many hours looking for them and I am always interested in seeing them.
The reflection is nice and the action was stopped well. I think to improve the look is to sharpen!

Close to the water surface is where the big swarms of bugs like to operate too,Grace!
That makes it a great place for insectivores like Bats,Dragonflies, and many species of small birds to cruise through!
( It might even be a kind of 'happy hunting ground' for large birds hoping to make a meal out of a small insectivous bird of flying mammal for all I know! : ) )
All such theories aside though your photo of this low-flying Heron seriously looks Great,my friend!

Thank you very much Sean. Yes, it can be a happy hunting ground. The swallows really take advantage of it.
You should post something for this year Sean!

I've been taking a rest the last few days,Grace!
I was getting crazy over that silly 'Trophy Rush' at the end of December so I think I'll steer away from that this year and simply have fun and post what I hope will be some enjoyable pictures! : D

I am glad that you did get a trophy Sean!

    Lol! Thanks,Grace!
I sort of got fixated on winning one after all those people kept passing me in the 'rankings'! It's kind of childish ( more of a half-baked popularity contest with the 'awards' going to whoever posts & promotes the most stuff ! ) but I let myself get drawn into it! *sigh* : )

Lol! Happens to the best of us Sean :)
I think we might share that fixating personality trait! I tend to get fixated on some things at times. Must be an artist quirk thing!

This is a very nice shot of the heron! I love the reflection in the water! The colors are very nice! The focus is good! My only suggestion might be to possibly lighten it up just a little bit! Overall a beautiful shot and a pleasure to view! Lori

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Simply stunning Greenie!
I know the challenges of getting a rare opportunity of a shot like this. I have several but on mine he is flying away not towards my lens.
The beauty is in the forward view, wing dip and the eye clarity and sharp focus.
Sa-wa-eeeeet!
White balance is handled well which makes me happy!
Fine work behind your Tonka Toy lens MIB!!
Bravo!

Absolutely amazing photo! Excellent Composition, sharp focus, contrast natural colors. I have always loved reflections in the water. This image shows fabulous reflections of great blue heron in flight. I love how the wing cut the water! It is amazing! Very educational notes, as usual on your posts. Many reasonss for the highest raiting! Bravo, Grace!!!

Oh my goodness! What an incredible capture! Nice stop of the action! Well focused, the image is clear! Exposure is well controlled, colors and tones are natural, beautiful wing position! Beautiful perfect reflection! Well composed , shows good detail throughout! Well presented! The only thing wrong is that I don't have a six to award this ! Beautiful work!

A beautiful shot that is well composed around that great reflection. The detail in the bird is very nice and the colors are outstanding. I wonder how you set the white balance on this camera.

Thank you Mike! I adjust the Kelvin in camera according to the time of day and weather. I'm not sure what you mean exactly. This was shot at around 6500. I could have gone in the 7000 range for more blue, but I liked the golden hour coloring. Is the question about how I determine the white balance or how to actually change it in this camera?
