We see them here in Missouri. I love the coloring of red on the head and neck. This one is positioned well within the shot. The snow on its belly and wings shows nicely. Focusing is good as I can see the depth in the snow. Lighting excellent.

This is a gorgeous photo of a male red belly,we have them here in New York State all year,in fact I had one of ours banging on the siding on the deck side of our house this morning. One year we had one that was putting holes near the peak of the garage roof and stuffing kernels of corn in them. They are beautiful birds, and you have taken an excellent photo showing it's wonderful b&w wing feathers and the bright red feathers adorning the top of his head and down his neck.Especially like the scattering of snow on his belly!

Thank you for the extra star! The corn stuffing would be funny if it wasn't doing the damage! Thank you for your remarks about my work :)

Nice to see it NOT perched on a branch, tree trunk, etc. This would actually make a lovely card,I could see Season's Greetings in red script aling with a red border!

Thanks for the history on this woodpecker!
Really adds a lot of character with it sitting on the snow!
This is well captured and a pleasure to view!

Very beautiful and nicely framed. I like the affect of the snow flying around his lower portion. The lines here are very clear and the colors wonderful. Thanks for sharing this.

This is a fine portrait. The colors of woodpecker are realistic and its body and plumage show nice detail. The markings are crisp. The profile view is intriguing. The photo is well composed and balanced. I like how the snowflake's swirl through the photo but do not distract from the bird.

Thank you very much for the six star rating on this one. I don't see them in the snow often, so I felt fortunate to see this one. They are usually in the trees when I see them, hugging so close that I barely see their markings!
