interesting marks on the stone, but I do not understand your tittle

good focus and light handling and good black background to make the stone pop up

thanks for sharing

Thank you for your kind review and your critical input. I explained the title in my comments. This is a piece of petrified stone. The rings look similar to rings in petrified wood.

Quite a nice entry into the competition posted here! Your fine, full and central composition offers us an interesting and enjoyable look at your find. Yes, those rings are similar to those in tree trunks but I doubt they mean the same. Exposure and sharpness are good. Well done and good luck!

A fine image of Macro Photography which is a Great entry for the contest.

The 'ripples' do indeed remind one of the annual rings often found in petrified wood.

Natural weathering of rock can produce some of the most unique patterns. You have captured this on very well. Nice use of the black background to add drama to this lovely stone.

I wish you the best in the judging ~ Steve

This looks like a page from a book on Geology, this stone shows such an incredible amount of detail in both its texture and in its intricate structure, it's rings resemble the rings found in a tree trunk when it has been sliced open with a saw. I see tiny holes throughout this stone as well. This is well, photographed with good focus, the image is clear to view, exposure is well managed , the colors and tones and slight variations of tone show naturally. I like the shape of this stone and feel that the black background works very well to keep the eye on this stone and it's detail. Well composed and presented! Best wishes to you in the contest!

Thank you very much for your encouraging review. The stone was laying face up on a cardboard box which I have covered with dark textile. Both were placed on a chair next to a window.

That is a really cool formation. I was ar the river with my 2 dogs and a friend. I was holding the Beagle and the 3 of us walked out into the rapid flowing water and trying to keep my balance on the bowling ball sized rocks on the river bed. I had my big dog on a leash. She tangled around my legs and I fell. The Rapids carried me and my dogs down stream. I worked my momentum towards a fallen log, got the dogs safely on shore. As I got out, there was this huge rock. Kind of egg shaped but big and heavy. It was maroon in color with countless white rings around it. It reminded me of Saturn. My friend and I tried to get it back to my car but it was too heavy. We thought of every way imaginable to get that rock up to my car. The next morning, he rang my doorbell and some how, I still dont know how, he got that rock to my home and put it next to my rock garden I had built. Amazing where we find such treasures, and I think it's awesome that you too, find beauty in what nature has to offer us. I love the way you have presented this treasure, in solid black, thus focusing all attention on your subject. Nice detailed focus with perfect lighting. You've nearly captured a 3D effect. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you very much for your kind comments. The stone in the photo is small, only 4.50 x 6.00 centimeters.
