It's a cool shot Willie with the bull's nose in the sand, but I am afraid your shutter speed was far to low and your white balance was off because we can't see the bull face since it's too dark.
You must shoot at 1/4000sec or higher, ISO at no higher than 400 , f/ stop at f/4.5 and white balance set manual to get right amount of light along with EV setting.
There is noise on the cowboy from hat to boots.
My guess is you shot this in Aperture for light, but bull riding requires manual so you can control shutter speed. And light is a challenge at these events
You must center meter the bulls eye and follow him around the arena. This way everything will be sharply focused.
I have been to several rodeos and bronco riding events. Auto settings will not work. Speed and white balance are crucial at these sporting events.
It's a nice shot, but some work needs to be done for your next time out so you get better exposure and sharper focus.

Thank you so much! All the things you say are true. I never use auto except for focus everything else is manual. The light in this place was terrible. I checked all my white balences on my camera found one that was tolerable. I hate to shoot faster than iso400 as it creates noise much faster. I was trying different shutter speeds and increasing iso. The pictures was all undesirable but I found by using black and white it made it better. I used denois and it helped some. I knew when I posted it that it was far from my best. I think four and a half is more than this deserves. A friend who shoots for the paper was shooting at iso 4000 with a fast shutter speed. He has a top of the line full frame. I wish I could afford one but oh well. Thanks again!

Here is what I did on my second time there.. forget the zoom lens. Use a prime it wide angle Because what you need is light. So it's why I bought my wide angle for night Photography and rodeos.
Your camera will allow you to raise Shutter but the smaller lens will allow you to lower f/stop.
When outside in sun...long lens.. inside with lights..short lens. You can always enlarge without noise.
We spent 100 to go to a night rodeo and out of 1000 shots. I kept 20 if the white horses.
The rest .. garbage. They allow us to be at the fence..so next time...short lens.
I am happy you did not get upset. I try to help people with correct settings.
These events no matter how bright the flood lights are...you need a fast lens with f/ stop as low as f/ 1.8 or f 1.4
I keep my 70-300 in bag and you my 50 or 35 ;)

I have a f2.8 lens but there was now way to get close enough. I hope I can find a rodeo outside, then things will be different. Thanks again for your advise and for your time! Always nice talking with you!

This is indeed a great action shot, and the stop action is perfect. I especially like the fine distinctions between light and dark and how well the textures of the sand are brought out.

The photo is sharp showing such clear and well defined details, and also the exposure is very good.

The photo is also nicely cropped and the bull with the rider has got a fine placement within the frame. Indeed a great looking and well taken photo with a very good DOF, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Nice action shot. Rodeos and fast movement shots are not easy to capture You have stopped this one well. I can't figure out what is happening with his face and the tip of his hat that are dark and granulated, whatever it is distracting to the image.

Nice stop of this action ! Wow! That is an angry bull, I've never seen one with his nose grinding in the dirt like this! Well focused, the image is clear, well managed exposure, good black and white rendering shows good tonal variations. Well composed, great storytelling! Nice work! Best wishes to you in the contest!
