Nice composition and good exposure on the photo. Lots of chromatic aberration (purple fringing) around some of the twigs and the bottom left half of the butterfly. Great try and good luck on the photo contest.

Thank you very much for your kind review and wishes. This species has naturally purple and blue spots near the tail. The purple above is a flower.

A beautiful picture of this beautiful Eastern Tiger Swallow Tail Butterfly on a spig of spicy Jatropha set against the clear blue sky. The wings outspread showing it's beautiful patterns. Beautiful composition framing and lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp. Good luck in the contest.

I wish I had 6 stars to give on this. I love the simplicity of it and how overwhelmingly beautiful it is despite the simple shot. Your detailed focus is so fine, so tight and "not a hair out of place". The absolute contrast between the equally beautiful blue sky, yellow and black butterfly and the red blossom and green and beige limbs is awesome. This shot is truly one of the best I've seen. I cant say enough about the simplicity of it and how much beauty it be holds. Less is more would be the rule here. This allows each of the 4 features (butterfly, sky, blossom and tree) to share in their equal contribution to the beauty of the shot.

Wow , this is so pretty! I love the yellow swallowtail next to the red blossom, I have not seen the spicy jatropha before, I like that there is just the one blossom on the otherwise bare stems, the butterfly shows nice clear detail. This is well focused, the image is clear, exposure is well managed, colors and tones appear natural, well composed against the blue sky , well presented! Best wishes to you in this contest!

Thank you very much for your encouraging comments and kind wishes. The Spicy Jatropha is a tropical plant which goes only in tropical and temperate climates.

Cool!
That's a fine looking photograph of a classically attractive Butterfly on an interesting sprig of vegetation!
It's pleasantly colorful and very enjoyable to view!

I do like the idea of the photo, but I feel the composition is a little off because the photo is heavy on the right side. The subject could have more space on the right side and cropped a little more on the left. It's also not quite clear--I'm thinking because it was so enlarged by the cropping. Keep at it!

Thank for your kind comments and critique. The photo is purposefully composed by the Rule of Thirds. It is only cropped minimal to keep distracting vegetation out.
reply by Patti C on 16-Mar-2019
So, I understand your reasoning but, the butterfly is at a diagonal. By pulling in a little left is centers the diagonal line more and balances out the heaviness of the right side. The rule of thirds is not the only rule and hey, rules are meant to be broken! ;-)
reply by the author on 16-Mar-2019
I like to break rules but in this case I stick with it because the butterfly bends the body to the left and I cannot give more space at the right because there bis another tree. I let the voters in the contest decide. I do not post to win, but because I like competition.

Hey, that's ok. It's YOUR vision, not mine.
You know the problems creating it, I don't. It's like spaghetti--ask 50 people to bring spaghetti and you get 50 flavors. Reviewers only bring their own experiences and ideas, some help and some don't. It's not personal, just an opinion. ;-)

Beautiful photo. You caught enough details that you can see the venules on the wings. The juxtaposition of the single red bloom on the branch next to the butterfly gives additional visual interest and it almost could pass of a red butterfly.
Nicely done.
