I love the undulating line of this beautiful Egret. I have never seen one to my regret, I would have my pencil out immediately. Such beautiful body lines. Not only do I adore all nature, but as a teacher I find it essential that more photographs of 'animals' are around. Many of my pupils are even scared, nay terrified, of cats and dogs as their families just don't have pets of any sort, or see them merely as food, including the pigeons at the park. 'My mum sent me out to catch them for tea.' said one young chap with a sack as I walked through our neighbourhood park! No they are not starving, they get more benefits than we do, by far. Birds are free and it is habit.

Cleo,
A beautiful stop action picture of this Great Egret in the long grass with a wriggling snake caught in it's long yellow beak. Beautiful composition framing and lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus.

Wow! Incredible timing to capture this great egret with a snake in its Bill, you were at the right place at the right time to see this! Focus is a bit soft, however the subject is clear and it's easy to see the snake, exposure is pretty well managed, I like this composition allowing a good sense of the surroundings. Well composed and presented!

Look at you?! A Great Egret about to swallow a snake!
I have seen them with a frog but not a snake yet. I think you did well capturing the Egret with The snake. Focus is a tad soft and white balance is handled well enough. A higher shutter speed was needed here. 1/20sec is very slow. I never shoot birds lower than 1/800sec.
Mostly I am at 1/3500sec to 1/4000sec. Dark low like days 1/1250sec.
But it's a unique rare shot. Most of us do not get the chance to see. My brother saw a Great Blue eat a snake last week, but he was driving and working.
Very cool Cleo ;)
Did not know you had Egrets where you are.

    Thank you very much for your advice. They will be very helpfull in the future. Usually we have Egrets only in the Zoo. Might he got out in one of the storms. I was too far away. This is the only photo I got. I just shot without re-setting the camera.

a great and quite unusual capture, you and the egret: it looks like a small snake;
excellent entry to the white contest with good control of exposure without blown outs;

Wow! What a great catch. I have never seen an egret with a snake before! Your timing was very good. This is a unique image and a good show of the color white.

    I have never seen a Egret with a snake before either.

Aptly captured for the contest theme.
Softly focused but no blown out whites.
Verdant backdrop pops him out more.
Perfect timing with that meal on its beak.
Would look better in a rectangular format with more space...

Good luck!

It's kinda funny..these birds are all over Florida but I just ignore em unless In the road. Yet I notice them if they are captured..wild huh? Lol. The clarity is great. The capture of the light is great. The angle of the shot of this bird is great. The image is balanced and eye appealing to the viewer. Good eye and great job overall
