Hey Dave, I'm so glad to know you're still here. I thought you might have left the site. I am truly honored to receive a six star review from you. Thank you SO MUCH! The fact that you voted for my image means a great deal to me too, because you felt it was worthy of winning not knowing who submitted it. Thank you again for those two incredible honors! :o) Nancy

Oh, I'm still here. This December it will be 10 years on FAR. I was on vacation for 2 weeks and then had the usual back to work overload. I have periods of inactivity posting and reviewing, but I'm still on the site almost every day. - Dave

This has very nice details showing. I like how well the one thread that he is hanging from stands out so well even with all the fine hairs blowing around. It is difficult to tell from this angle what kind he might be. I would guess some type of tiger moth caterpillar. I like how the light accentuates his hairs too.

A great entry into the Little but Big Photography Contest.
I like your back lighting and how it enhances your caterpillar so well showing every detail and intricate hairs on the creature. Very well photographed in good lighting, sharp focus, and outstanding details and clarity in your image. Your diffused background compliments your beautiful work with a beautiful field of bokeh. Outstanding work and thanks for sharing. Best wishes in the contest a good contender.

Ha! I see the white spots just fine at my distance between monitor and my desk chair!
I don't need to get closer to this hairy Harry here is jeeebie thingy!! ;)
You worked hard on this and it paid off.
When the wind blows your subject around just raise your shutter speed I deal with wind daily. I just shoot at 1/3500sec or higher.
Great find and capture with sweet enhancements.
Best of luck in the contest.

A very nice nature shot posted here! Your full and off-centre composition shows off the caterpillar in grand style and seems to suggest that thread is very strong! Sharpness and exposure are good. Well done and good luck!

A beautiful shot. The lighting is extraordinary and makes the hairs on this caterpillar glow. A very nicely composed shot with great colors. By the way "several shots" is nothing the heron I posted today caught this catfish yesterday as I was watching and it took him several minutes to swallow it. In that 4 or 5 minutes I shot 250 shots of him. It makes for tedious editing.

WOW Mike! I can imagine how thrilled you must have been. No-one wants shots like that to get away and you took full advantage of the situation. Patience really pays off! I can imagine the amount of editing you did looking for the really cool shots! Bet you got some fantastic ones! Thanks for the wonderful review of my caterpillar! I'm glad you enjoyed the shot.

A beautiful picture of this very harry moth Caterpillar hanging on a silk tread the sunlight behind it giving the hairs a halo so they stand out from the darker background... I could be wrong but the two moths it is resembles are cream spot Tiger moth or an Oak Eggar moth. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

Thank you for the great review and your help in trying to figure out what kind of caterpillar this is. I'll look up to two moths you mentioned and see if I can make a match.

Nice capture and good treatment of the caterpillar. It has an almost abstract feel to it. The background works well. I like the sun shining trough it and highlighting its shape and features. Well worth your patience and efforts.
