The kale is deliciously interesting. I love the tight perspective, moisture on the leaves and the insect looking to take a bite. Fills the frame very nicely too! Well done!

Dena,
Thank you for your time and comments. I am pleased you like the photo. The bug does add an interesting aspect to photo, doesn't it? For me it adds to the feeling of depth.
Foreshortening, it take a subject and gives it perspective, like in this case the stalk starting from the left side corner, takes your eye down it and then you follow the stalk to vanishing point on the horizon, most people think of the reseeding railroad tracks that eventually leads the eye to a point in the distance.
In this case the head like piece of the plant laying on the stalk interrupts that some, but it to seems to be reseeding as well.

I think you fulfilled the task nicely. The focus is clear on most of it--the bug is a little out of focus. Nice bokeh on the background leaves. The color is nice, too. The composition is pleasing. So, overall, a very nice photo.

Yes, bugs do add interest. One time I was photographing a flower and was so involved in focusing it that I didn't notice until I got it on my computer that it had an ant on it. Good luck in the contest.

This is a great shot. If you had not described it, would have taken me awhile to figure it out. Before I read the description, I thought it was a frog concealed in something. That's the beauty of art, it allows us to use our imagination. Thanks sharing your work.

An interesting and creative angle that you have shot from to produce what is an eye catching submission and very apt for this particular contest title. The textures are really good and as you state the insect adds that quirky dimension to the piece, good luck in the contest

Excellent close up of kale in full color with water drops. The clarity is awesome and really gives the viewer an excellent look at a plant internals. Great presentation with a great close up view. Thanks

I had to look up what foreshortening actually meant, and I actually think Your photo is showing this well. I especially like the fine textures you have brought out and also the Limited color pallet. It almost looks like some creature With a Diamond eye is crawling out of the plant.
The Focus is Sharp and I also think it is good light in this photo. You have captured such a fine shine in the drop of water.
The format you have cropped the photo into Works well, and it is a fine Balance in the composition. I think this is a great looking and well taken photo With a good DOF, and I wish you Luck With the contest.

Comment from ABG Photography
Yes, it does make use of foreshortening the way you shot it. Very well too. I think that the focal point is just a little out of focus, but not so much to be distracting. It is very interesting to look at, thanks to the different shapes and textures of the plant, the water drops and the bug. It is well lit, cropped/framed wonderfully and is a wonderful composition. Good luck in the contest.

I had to look up what Foreshortening Photography was and I think you have achieved it in this image - was a little confused by the definition so cannot be sure. It certainly is a very different perspective to see the Kale from. Nicely done.

This is totally awesome.
Depth of Field: Perspective affects the feeling. How much feeling can a veggie with a bug create... oh it is so much more than just a tiny bug on a veggie.. it is amazing a one in a million shot.
Exposure: excellent
focus: superb
Subject: veggie with what looks like a snake head and tiny bug saying see you I am leaving...lol
Movement: Oh sure of course, the bug exiting stay right... lol.. funny... the glimmer in the snakes eye... the water droplet... the crown of the snakes head...the curvature of the snakes back... to make a strike
Comment:
Amazing... really amazing... What appears to be a snake head and its watery eye captured my attention right away. So much so, I had to rejoin FAR just to comment on this piece. I had been a member years ago, and thought I should check it out and see what has changed and wow... your photo captured my attention and drew me in to take a more in-depth look see and to begin commenting again, which used to be so much fun. This work is truly a master piece. The tiny bug on the back of what appears to be the head, the rough looking snake skin the shape and where the head is resting on it's own body -- really cool. Of course, I hope I do not spoil the surprise waiting for others, as there are people who will miss the snake and may one see only the tiny bug..

Lorraine,
good morning.
Wow, now this is a very inspiring review. What else can I say, except thank you so much for coming out of retirement and then commenting on my photo with such an in depth critique.
This is one to share with the FAR community on how a good critique/review should be structured.
Take care & be safe.
