A beautiful picture of this mother Chipping Sparrow busy stuffing a green caterpillar into the open beak of her newly fledged chick in the grass. Beautiful composition framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

I find it quite amazing how a bird will continue to feed a chick even if the chick is as big as the parent. A nice shot that is well composed. Good luck in the contest.

Even when a young bird can fly I often see them chase their parent for a meal. At that point you would think the young bird would be hunting on it's own. Thanks for the great review and wishes for the contest!

You were in the right place at the right time to capture this image! I love how we get a close up view of the mother bird feeding her chick. Good composition, color, and lighting. My only suggestion is to improve the clarity and focus, if possible.

Your absolutely right about being there at the right time!!! I didn't even know there was a fledgling around. I stopped to capture the full grown sparrow that landed nearby. I was surprised when it hopped along to it's young hidden in the grass. I waited thru several visits of insects to get some shots of mom feeding her fledgling. I felt extremely lucky!!! I wish the focus had been a little better too! Thanks for the great review and help!

Woah, what a capture! Personally, not a photo I can 'look at' for very long - haha - I can 'feel it' ;) Wonderful!
A little blown out in the whites, perhaps underexposing then you could bring out the shadows, would help with that, and not quite crisp focus, but still giving a 5 star for the actual 'composition'. I can not even begin to imagine the patience required to get such a moment. :) The bug, directly in the mouth of the babe! Nice work.
Good luck in the competition!

Hi Ann, That poor little bird had trouble getting that caterpillar down. The mother had to try twice to get the caterpillar down it's throat...it was HUGE! It's amazing the poor fledging didn't choke on it. I can imagine that is why it was hard to look at for you. I wish the focus could have been better and the lighting as well. Thanks for the advise it's very much appreciated. Glad you enjoyed the shot!

It is amazing how much a fledglings beak can hold. That tiny bird has a big mouth [beak] indeed. The photo is well focused and exposed. I appreciate the realism of color and light and the refinement of detail. The PoV is interesting. The view from above shows the feeding process well. The birds are excellently placed within the frame. The composition is balanced.

A very good looking entry into the competition posted here! Your fine and central composition offers us an enjoyable view of the feeding action. Like the tenderness of the scene. Exposure and sharpness are good. Well done and good luck!
