For the topic - full points! It fills the 'a story to tell' brief.
Thoughts: With them down in the bottom corner and and 'heading off' the page, tends to lead my eye off the photo too though. Would have been great had they been centred and more the focus of the shot completely. :) A little overprocessed in the reds for skin tone but that's an easy fix. :)
Great interest developed in the New York skyline captured behind - and do like the hazy clouds overlapping the buildings.
All the best for the competition with a shot that does fill the brief. :)

I think this is a very fine entry into this contest, because it for sure tells a story. What I like the best about this photo is that you have managed to photograph a street scene without making it look too busy. Probably because you have focused on the couple on the left, and that the buildings in the background are soft.
The two of them are standing out so well and I like that we can actually see their expression, and what they are doing. The photo is well exposed.
I also like the format you have cropped the photo into, and with the couple placed to the left, it is indeed a fine balance in the composition. A great looking and well taken photo, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Your candid photo is interesting. Apparently this bridge is in heavy use of pedestrians. The morning seems cool and foggy. Some of the people wear coats. You captured intriguing detail. The contradiction of the bridge and the hazy almost monochromatic cityscape in the background is appealing. The photo is well focused and exposed and has good depth. I appreciate the realism of color and light. The panorama framing is perfect. The bridge is well placed within the frame. The composition is balanced.
