did you read 'The Ghost stories' by Walter De La Mare?
A weary traveller is oppressed by the atmosphere inside a cathedral by the sea. Two boys spend a holiday with a sinister aunt, an experience that will mark them forever. I am sure the ghostly mare comes into there somewhere!

Mentioning Walter de la Mare has brought back long lost memories. Maybe a time for rereading.

I am re-reading 1001 and one nights, and am seeing it in a totally different light to the last time I read it at about 12 or so.

Indeed it looks like the ghosts we all know. But it looks like more like a cow's ghost.:) I like how you have used the black and white to create spaces. Good luck in the contest!

Thank you. It's based on a shore horse, they are work horses so are broader and chunkier. I can see where youarre coming from. I appre late your remarks.

Brenda this is very nice work here. I like your creativity and technique.
This is a ghostly mare for sure. I wouldn't want to run into her. She looks mean and mysterious.
You have captured your sought after effect beautifully. Well done. Nice contest entry. Good luck.

This horse looks indeed like a ghost. Your technique is interesting. The black eyes draw the interest of the viewer. The apparition demands our attention with its flowing brush strokes. The monochromatic emphasizes the otherworldly appearance. The Ghost Mare is well placed within the frame. The composition is balanced.
Your painting reminds me of a story by the German writer Theodor Storm, Der Shimmelreiter [translated to English, published as The Dykemaster and The Rider of the White Horse].

A good looking entry into the competition posted here! Your fine composition offers us a good look at your ghostly horse. What a scary sight it is too! Your experiments seem to have worked out well. Nicely drawn and good luck!

Yikes -- ghost mare in the snow. She looks a bit spooky and very original and has a ghostly believable look... Nice flaring nostrils and poor thing looks like it suffered a bunged bridge of nose!

I am thrilled with your review and verdict. Especially from a horse expert. This was experimental. I have been doing challenges lately, speed challenges and I think it has improved my thoughts to create something sometimes full of detail and at others a splashy freedom. This is the latter. I have pulled this timage into a digital software and created the same image in different layers so I have a set of three to hang alongside each other. The 2 other versions are being printed on canvas to match the original. I can then overpaint them to make them hand finished.

Hi Brenda, this is an intriguing piece , it does appear to be a ghost Horse, I like the mistiness that the mares face is emerging from, it could be a face in the clouds too! Well arranged in the vertical format, well presented!

Thank you Pat that is an interesting view you make. Clouds are a very interesting interrpretation. Clouds fascinate me and I often make scenes and pictures from them.
