A nicely composed shot that shows the ritual bath in the Ganges very well. I like this angle that places the flags against the sky. Best of luck in the contest.

Sesha,
A beautiful & interesting picture of the people bathing in the sacred waters of the Ganges during Kumbh Mela pilgrimage & festival in the city of Allahabad. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

    Sesha,
    Thank you.
    My Great Great Great Grandfather (Who had joined the Army in Dublin in 1854 & died in Allahabad during the Sepoy Rebellion of Typhus & is buried there. His wife who had remained in the British Iles with her 4 children emigrated to America to join her sister in Detroit.

    It is sad to hear loss of life during conflict situations. It must have been a traumatic experience for the family to bear the loss of the bread earner. Small consolation he is buried in a holy place. It is renamed now to its original name Prayagraj.

A very good looking entry into the competition posted here! Your fine and classical composition offers us an enjoyable view of that important festival location. Looks like lots of people got there. Like the boats and flags. Well done and good luck!

there have been programs on the television about these festivals. Especially the dipping into the river, another version of Christian baptism I would say, wiping out original sin. Original sin is to be human, and the lives of our ancestors. Theists wouldn't agree. Amazing photo..

    Yes. The purpose of dipping in a holy river and wiping out the sin of being born a human is to attain 'moksha' liberation from births and deaths! That's the Hindu belief. Thanks very much for your time and nice review. I appreciate it!

I attended the festivity of the Kumb mela about 45 year ago, somewhere on the banks of the Ganges river; it was very impressive;
good framing but the details are too dark;

Fantastic capture....you have composed the shot brilliantly...the photo is full of action...the flags are adding charm to the photo...blurry trees at the back add depth...focus and clarity is superb....good luck for the contest

Personally I don't know anything about Hinduism but I'm enjoying your interesting and pleasantly unusual picture,my friend!
The lighting may be a bit Harsh but sometimes you can't control that sort of stuff! : )

Great photograph to share and adding a little history with it in your description is really nice., Very suitable for journalism contest entry. I noticed that most people are fully closed, so different from other cultures.

Thanks for entering my contest with this interesting piece,bet it was something to be involved with this.
Although I find this interesting to view I would have liked the people to have been lit a tad better,this looks as if its been taken around midday so the contrast and lighting would have been not at its best to take this.
