What a great shot! What characters these feathered friends are. I find most appealing the audience of bystanders on the pier in the backdrop as this pelican flies off. Great selective focus, light and overall appealing composition.

This is an interesting gathering of birds. I guess they wait for the return of fishing boats to catch some food. That the birds show different poses is intriguing. The pose of the flying bird is especial interesting. Your photo is well focused and exposed and has good depth. I appreciate the realism of light and color and the refinement of detail. The birds are well placed within the frame. The composition is balanced.

an interesting capture and stop action with the five pelicans, one in flight and the two cormorantson the pole;as already indicated by Sandra, there are some blown outs in the white feathers;

    Thanks Fred - yes our Pelicans are exceptionally white compared to the ones in USA and are always a challenge :)

Very nice Mary ;)
You have fine focus, stop action and nice clarity on all the Pelicans and two Cormorants.
Only tiny suggestion is to try to control white balance better.
As I have mentioned in the past, it can only be done shooting manual which includes using Kelvin Scale. A temp of 5000k with all color settings to zero will work for most all day shooting. Then lower ISO to no higher that 250 and keep EV at zero or minus.
Raise that shutter HIGH!
Like 1/3500 or 1/4000sec.
This is a beautiful capture with minor brightness on the whites in some areas.
My review is for your growth behind your lens and not to be picky.
So many members have been here for yrs and they still shoot in Apeture, shutter or auto... None of these settings allow you control over f/stop , white balance or exposure bias.

    Thanks again - must practice Kelvin scale again went back to using camera setting and doesn't quite handle exposure. Thanks for suggestions :)

Wow! You were at the right place at the right time ! Five pelicans and two cormorants! Nice stop action on the pelican that decided to leave the group. I like that you show two different types of birds, it shows the size difference between the pelicans and the cormorants. This is well focused, the image is clear, exposure is pretty good, colors and tones appear natural. Well composed and presented! Best wishes to you in this contest! You are fortunate to have had the opportunity to capture this wonderful scene!

A good looking image posted here! Your fine and classical composition captures a good in-flight moment. Like the beak and wing display. Seems like the other birds are admiring the take-off! Sharpness and exposure are good. Nicely done!

Hi Mary!
A 'quick shot' it might have been but it's a pleasingly interesting shot too! : )
It makes one think that there might be something that about to happen that only the birds are aware of!
Cool! : )
