Apparently we are looking at a pasture in winter. Snow covers the dry grass partly. I guess that the birds are searching for food. The Pheasants are indeed impressive. The coloring of their plumage is extraordinary. I like that you feature a male and female. The difference of their plumage is interesting. I appreciate your attention to realistic detail and color. The birds are well placed within the frame. Perspective and proportions are correct. The painting is well composed. The composition is balanced.

Thanks much Cleo for the nice review. I think male pheasants have such a dramatic color I am sure my paintings falls way short of what nature does. Thanks again.

I have to admit that I also like the taste, but these birds are truly lovely with their colorful feathers. Especially the males of course. I especially like how well you have done the ground with dead grass and branches sticking out of the ground, and also how well the birds are standing out from it.

The birds are done paying very good attention to details, and your brush work is very good. Good use of high lights as well.

The format and framing is fine, and I think the birds are well placed on the canvas. I think this is a lovely and well done painting Allan, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Thanks Annie, I did try to make the rooster stand out and be the highlight of the painting. I appreciate your comments as I know your also do artwork. I wish I could become more consistent however.

You are more than welcome Allan, and it is actually pretty hard to be consistent when it comes to art. I am all over the place myself.

Well Allan , I must say, I am so very impressed , my initial thought was Wow! It is such a beautiful work of art, the rooster pheasant in front with the hen up in back, thats very good placement, the rooster of course is the most colorful, he's gorgeous and you have created him with excellent attention to the details, accurate shape and structure, perfect proportions, his colors are well applied, he looks so proud! You bring him to life with your creation of his eye! The hen is also well created with accurate shape and structure, well applied colors , she appears to be searching for food, she is lovely and again she comes to life with the creation of her eye! I really like the grasses poking up from the snow, this is very well rendered , your title is perfect, he is majestic indeed! Wonderful entry for this contest! Very best wishes to you!

Wow, a high rating as this means a lot when I submit a painting. I always feel venerable on art work vs photography. With photography you have the subject in front of you, with paintings you just have a blank. So glad you liked it and your comments mean a lot!!

It is interesting that in art and photography it is still about the eye to give realism.

This is so impressive, you have really grown as an artist, it?s obvious that a lot of time and thought was applied here, the painting is well deserving of a six, it?s beautiful work Allan, you are right, a photographer finds the scene or subject, manages proper settings to capture it with good quality, an artist has to make something from nothing, a blank canvas ,you did that here with such skill! It?s impressive !

Thanks for your thoughts! I sometimes feel I am just lucky as an artist. I can do some good pieces and then others are poor. Not consistent.
I think one needs consistency to become a "good" artist.

A very good looking entry into the competition posted here! Pheasants have lived here in the UK for centuries. Several visit our garden very frequently to eat the bird
food we put out. Like your winter composition and the colours and tones in your fine painting. Well done and good luck!
