White-winged Dove

If only the head were cropped out and was shown to me, I would think this was a real, live bird. Pretty bird at that. I dont know if it was your intentions to separate the realism between objects in the picture, but I personally would have like to see the rest of the bird, and the background pieces look a little more realistic, to compliment the birds head, literally. Its like having a fresh from the garden tossed salad, with no dressing, or in this case, a cheaper, no-name brand, watered-down version of your favorite salad dressing. Also I wish the bird was more closer in color to the original white-winged dove. I almost started my review with, "well arent most doves white?!" (of course as a joke) but when you look at an actual white-winged dove, that white stripe is soo prominent, those of us who didnt know why its named that would say "ooohhh that's why it's called white-winged".
Side note: its eye almost replicates an "evil eye" which, is actually a good thing despite the name.

Yes, It was my intention, to separate the background from the dove. I painted the background somewhat abstract in order to emphasize the Dove. The colors are the Breeding colors of the bird which are different to the plumage of non breeding birds. I am working on several other painting of Doves, which show the whole body. I usually work 40-60 hours on a painting. I will post them when They are finished. :o)

This photo grabs my attention so quickly. Something about the doves gaze, plus it looks like he is covered with blue gray velvet. Also, the background keeps me looking at the various textures and wondering just what is.

Good nites that add so much i terest when reviewing. This is a very nice close up of this white wing fove. I really appreciate the focal point of it's eyes. What winderful detail. The tones on this take add a creativity much to enjoy. The overall is balanced and is a good presentstion.

How did you get the specked look on the bird? The light blue around the eye comes out right at you. Usually it is a hot color that jumps out.

I painted the speckles with a very fine brush. :o)

Even though you got an All Time Best, I still have to give you a 6. What a beautiful painting. I get a lot of doves at my bird feeder, but none as pretty as this. I can't imagine being able to create something like this. Even my stick people look a bit weird.

You did a good job on composition regarding the placement of the dove. The dove looks so peaceful and realistic. The background looks rather tumultuous so I would soften it so it doesn't detract from the main subject. Best of luck!

Thank you much for your encouraging comments and your critical input.
I painted the background already less detailed and softer than the dove in order to emphasize the bird and her plumage. I did not detect any distraction, but since we rarely see our own mistakes I will look closely at my painting again. :o)

This work is insanely delicious and a visual masterpiece! Your extreme attention to detail has me fascinated to no end! At first I thought it was a traditional photo with applied grain. I was wrong. After investigating the software you used to create this, my jaw dropped. Wow. Just WOW!

What a beautiful work of this white-winged dove you have accomplished! The colors are as lovely and peaceful as the dove itself. Your background composition sets it off well, accenting the birds colors without competing. Very nice piece!

I really like the dove, in particular the eyes and the beak that is so well rendered. The work looks almost velvety, especially well done digitally. This site has so many gifted artists.
