Perfectly timed shot!! Just when the darter emerges out and hunts the fish, you took this shot so superbly. It's a lovely composition as well. It's such a beautiful entry for the contest and my best wishes for the contest

Mary,
A fantastic stop action picture of the Australasian Darter ~ Anhinga novaehollandiae with little more than it's head & neck out of the water, a speared fish on it's beak the sunlight glistening on the fish's silver scales. The blue grey of the sea making a perfect backdrop.
Artistic composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

Well done capturing this action of a fish supper so clearly. The image is perfect and balanced. The colours have come out natural and along with the light management has created this fine shot.

Beautiful little fish that the darter is playing with. It is almost like it is playfully tossing it, like a fond tossing, but then when it gulps it down I am sad for the little more lovely fish.

Probably not any better with the subject's neck only showing. The water is nice. I think it would be prettier if just a little more of the body with feathers were shown. Regardless, it is outstanding that you photographed the darling little fish so well. It is the pretty one.

Thanks for response unfortunately these birds keep their bodies under the water when swimming diving deeply to get the fish. Only time you see feathers is when bird comes ashore and spreads them to dry

Up here we call them anhingas of sometimes just "snakebirds". A very nice shot with excellent detail in both the "fisherman" and his catch.

Amazing how the bird speared the fish. The fish looks big. Getting the fish off won't be easy. I guess the bird need to swim to shore and use its claws. Your photo is well focused and exposed and has good depth. I appreciate the realism of light and color and the refinement of detail. The waves below show the movement of the bird. The background is unobtrusive. The photo is well composed and framed. The composition is balanced.
