Hi Steve, this is such an interesting image. It shows the leaf cutter ant at work cutting down this plant.
This is well focused, the image is clear, exposure is good, colors and tones appear natural. This tells the story very well. Your notes are interesting, informative and appreciated! Well presented! Best wishes to you in this contest!

Whoops there goes another rubber tree plant!

I have always found Ants to be particularly problematic - There is a high degree of difficulty in capturing one in full focus since they are always on the move still only briefly. Most takes I've seen of this species none had quite gotten the entire body and legs in full focus - In this shot I can accurately count the sensory hairs on the very end of the Ants abdomen, that qualifies for rarest of rare. Composition and Framing the next major huddle - First off, the 'Tree' can't be better positioned or focused finer. Kudos. Secondly, your mixed media slider skills are evident. I see a fore & background canvas that keeps the viewers attention focused on the action.

Color Harmony, Center of Interest, Story Telling Ability as points of consideration for review are all off the chart - Fabulous.

Finally, Initial Impact - Your capture shows a struggling Ant carrying several times its own weight while crawling over a boulder in a desolate land. This composition is dramatic, endearing, has lots of smileage, thought provoking and just darn fun to look at. Good lord man, what do you want this poor creature to do next; stand up and take a bow?!

I would be happy to contact the other contestants and advise them to pull their entries for another time because I think you have a solid winner.

I wish I had 6, this shot is soooo deserving of it - next time ... Bob B-))

Thank you so very much Bob for your artistically detailed and humorous review. Very encouraging. I have to admit that your review is much better than the image. I really appreciate your mastery in creating a wonderful review. Your kind commentary is worth More than a six.

As an FYI Bob: I shoot all my photos with an iPhone11. For these kinds of shots I normally use Burst Mode and follow the subject or wait until it enters the frame at a predetermined place. This was one of about 50 images taken of this little guy as he struggled along. Hope this isn't TMI ~ Steve

Just what makes that little ole ant....think he can move a rubber tree plant....everyone knows an ant can't....move a rubber tree plant...
But he's got...high hopes...
He's got...high hopes....
And that's how the song goes!
Anyway that's what this reminds me of....in addition to being a fantastic entry for the contest!

LOL - had to laugh when I saw the title, because I bet this part of a plant is a lot heavier than a leaf. It is truly amazing that you managed to take a photo like this, and your shallow DOF is excellent. Ants are indeed strong.

Your focus is spot on and quite sharp, and it is clear and well defined details to be seen both in the ant and the plant. The colors look very natural, and the exposure is perfect.

The format you have cropped the photo into is working really well, and the ant has got a fine placement in the picture. This of course makes for a well balanced composition. I think this is a great looking and taken macro photo Steve, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Oh. That poor Ant. That piece of plant must really feel like a tree to her, especial crossing the rocks in her way. Your close up has good depth and is perfect focused a exposed. I enjoy the sharpness of detail and the realism of color and light. The background is unobtrusive. The Ant is excellent placed within the frame. The composition is balanced.

Oh I haven't been reviewing anyone other than a FAR member who I have been doing some projects with outside of FAR, but i saw this and just had to admire the humorous photographic masterpiece!!! Also, I have been updating my overly wordy Guatemalan memoir that I sent you at one point and alternatively adding a lot more about "my crosses" -- and so I had to think of you! How goes it? You know I am in the UK right? Forward me a high enough resolution shot of this and I'll put it on my computer desktop along with your caption across the bottom!!! Feels like me throughout my life, lol... daphneoberon@gmail.com

A great shot that makes me feel a little sympathy for this ant. The ant and his "tree" are shown in very fine detail and beautiful colors. Best of luck in the contest.
