Woah!! This deserves a six but I don't have one. You didn't get lucky, this clearly shows your skills. The detail you captured is amazing!! Well done!!

Much appreciated. I had previously attempted a full moon shot with my 2006 model EF 70-200 2.8 L lens but they never came out this good.

A very fine lunar eclipse shot. The phenomenon is very well shown with great detail in the surface of the moon. Excellent cropping and a fine exposure. Best of luck in the contest.

Much appreciated. Can't say that I miss my old EF 70-200 2.8 L lens now!

Hello there Deanster, I was torn between this and the rooster (almost went rooster) but this was just too good to not pick. Love it my friend.

DeansterZ ... You have posted a moon shot that is as good as it gets with the equipment you listed - congratulations. I'm not joking with you, getting good lunar takes is not child's play.

I see a near astrological body that is well presented in an slightly off center position. The f-stop brings the texture to the face of the Moon. DOF and contrast are appropriate for the subject matter - nice technique.

What impress's me most about this shot is the shooter, you. You extended yourself into a new area and persisted until you got what you had envisioned, it don't get better than that, man.

If you want to get even closer you could get canons 2X converter. With the converter your excellent 100-500L lens is now 200-1000. Plus, if your camera uses a 'C' sensor, then there is crop factor of 40% boosting the reach to a max of 1,400mm. Remember everything you add to increase focal length also increases exposure time. Time to consider alternative ISO's.

Enough preaching - great shot, but the 6 is for your photo savvy ... Bob P. B-))

Thanks so very much for your high rating of this image. I actually debate as to whether or not I should even post it. Glad I did!

A tremendous capture of the baby moon eclipse presented here. Made even better by the first few shots of a new lens tryout. Tremendous focus and detail. Well done

I am never afraid to admit, it was more luck than skill. I Just guessed at the settings somewhat based on a previous moon shot attempt with older equipment.

Yes you were fortunate to capture this Eclipse at the right time in the right manner. Your procedure is nice and thanks for sharing. You truly did more than one thing at a time.

You did a perfect job with your new camera. I see the mare at the lighted part of the moon and the small star clearly at the darker part.
Your photo is excellent focused and exposed and has good depth. I appreciate the refinement of detail and the realism of light and color. The moon is well placed within the frame. The composition is balanced.

Well this is a cool capture of the lunar eclipse. The angle of the shot of the moon is great. The capture of the light is great. The clarity is great. The image is balanced and eye appealing to the viewer. I'm grateful that this not an image of a full moon. Otherwise I would grow fangs and hair. Then I would run through the woods like a wild animal. What sux is the next day I have fleas. I now try to take precautions by wearing a flea collar just in case. For real?!? No of course not but this image inspired that story from the top of my head. Lol. Great eye and awesome work overall.

It was fun even if I returned indoors nearly half frozen- my teeth still begin to chatter just looking at the image...
