Might be the sweetest small bird I have ever seen! Excellent photo because you captured the white the light tones SO well, and the background is clear and uncluttered. What a beautiful bird in your artistic hands! May I ask where you live? Have never seen this bird in Missouri.

Thanks so much for the lovely review and extra star! i live in New York State about an hour from the Pennsylvania border. this is a black capped chickadee that has the genetic mutation leucism which inhibits melanin and other pigments from being deposited in it?s feathers, giving it it?s unique, pale coloration. I photographed this uniquely colored chickadee last winter and last saw it just before breeding season. Unfortunately, i have not seen it this year :(

Thank you for the information. My son and his family moved to Philadelphia a few months ago, and I recently attended a ZOOM bird program in a library near them. The librarian said that New York, PA, and Calif always rank in the top 3 states of birdwatchers. I hope this special chickadee shows up again. It would be interesting to know if the coloration will be transferred to its offspring.

I wish it would, miss photographing it; when I?d see it in the distance fluttering around the trees it reminded me of a large white moth. If I remember right, both parents need to carry the gene for this mutation in order for the offspring to show signs of it. Piebald deer are an example, too, of leucism, both parents have to carry the gene.

This little chickadee is truly cute, and you have pictured it so well. It could not have posed for you in a more lovely way, and the white snow offers a perfect background. The bird is standing out from it in an excellent way.

The focus is spot on and pin sharp and it is indeed clear and well defined details to be seen in the feathers of the bird. The exposure and white balance is perfect.

The format and framing is very good, and the chickadee has got a very good placement within the frame. This is a truly lovely and well taken photo, and with an excellent DOF. I wish you luck with the contest.

It is like something went wrong with my stars this week as I want to give this a six but seem to have used them all even though I thought I only gave 3 out. This is superb in every respect and deserves a one of a kind award for clarity, wildlife capture, color, focus and detail... thanks for sharing!

A beautiful picture of this little Leucistic Black capped Chickadee looking over it's shoulder at you from it's perch with snow in the background making a contrasting backdrop.
Beautiful composition framing and lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you so much for the very lovely review! This bird?s coloration is due to a genetic condition that causes loss of pigment.

Beautiful and special again from a special angle and position in a perfectly outstanding second as he looks into a nice direction making this picture excellent. Your background color is also outstanding - your brightness and sharpness has perfectly implicated, so all the best for the contest

That is one fine looking Leucistic Chickadee and rightly named the white ghost. Framed nicely and a well balanced shot. White chin feathers adorn the throat. The cream colored wing and tail feathers are amazing. Good luck for the contest. Ray G.
