The green backdrop is a perfect setting to allow the wonderful colors of the flower to shine through. I like the placement of the flower in the upper 1/3 of the photo, it creates a nice frame. Lucien i do like this capture. now i have question because this is really not my field but willing to learn. i love the direct capture of the awesome looking flower. i just dont understand why the dead space at the bottom wasnt cropped out. being i never really had any kind of art or photography classes im just want to know if this some kind presentation suggestion they teach. i know about the dead space in art but not certain about photography. the clarity is great. the capture of the light is great. the image is balanced and is still eye appealing to the viewer. just curious but still like the anyway. (thumbs up)

first off, Thank you for having taken the time to look and review the Rose, and ask the question.
I really appreciate your complimentary review and that you like the compositional elements.
In a photo for me dead space does the same thing as in art. It gives the image balance, or sometime a asymmetrical flow, with the intent of leading the viewer towards the main visual element.
In this case, it does that, and also adds depth and perspective to the composition.In this photo, it also adds some different textures within/to the photo, that for me enhances the smoothness of the rose's pedals, which visually helps them stand out and pushes the rose towards the observer, which again enhancing the overall feel of the composition and then of course gives it balance.
I hope that helps you understand my intent, and in my opinion, how some of the same elements that make for a good piece of art, also applies to a good photograph.

Interesting and that is why I ask. So if the dead space assist leading up to the POV then that is encouraged. Hmmm. I'm gonna have to think on that one and how I approach to attempt something like that. Thanks for telling Lucien!(thumbs up)

is that not why you have, or create negative and dead space in art? To either create a balance or create a imbalance, to create conflict/interest to a composition, why would it be any different in photograph?
The other thing in this photo it creates different textures, the leafs and then the bricks, that to me help enhance the delicate nature and softness to the pedals.
